Dominika Ćwiek's home haven project

09 of April '20

Living out of suitcases, between one trip and another, can be exhausting. No wonder, then, that at some point everyone starts looking around for their own angle. The owner of a Warsaw apartment decided no differently. After she found the apartment of her dreams, she asked Dominik Ćwiek for an interior design.

The result of this cooperation was a functional apartment, about which it can be said - using a famous literary quote - "the most important is invisible to the eyes". Because here are simple forms of development in a uniform color scheme, hiding a real wealth of storage solutions. These are numerous cabinets, drawers, cassettes and storage compartments, which allow you to play hide-and-seek with everyday objects, so that, hidden, they do not disturb the harmony of the interior. This was possible thanks to the customized furniture of the Polish brand Komandor, which , according to the designer , is the main asset of the realization.

Tone to tone

The character of this 105-square-meter apartment can be recognized from the entrance: it is simple and functional. Against the background of the bright walls of the hallway disappear discreetly integrated, capacious built-in closets of the Komandor brand with hinged and folding doors. The only free-standing piece of furniture is a lacquered dark gray console, interestingly contrasting with the warm color of wood on the floor, which can be found throughout the apartment. The corridor's styling is a prelude to the rest of the rooms, where a subdued, consistent color scheme consistently reigns, with function taking over. The living room combined with the kitchenette is a range of colors from the gray palette.

From the dove-colored sofa and Komandor built-in furniture, whose solidity in a similar shade is refined by glass display cases, through slightly darker curtains, to the graphite bar and black table and chairs. All this with the use of geometric forms, which are also replicated in the strongest point of the interior - a large-format wallpaper with a length of 6 meters. It creates an interesting optical illusion, and its three-dimensional cubist pattern brings dynamics to the conservative colors and shapes of the furniture. Minimalist black and white kitchen cabinetry devoid of all ornaments and handles is a consistent choice.

Warm zone

The bedroom, two bathrooms and the study go in the direction of warmer tones, though organized in similarly uniform compositions. In the first of the rooms, the most striking feature is the bed, which, in addition to the high mattress, catches the eye with its copper-gold headrest integrated with the nightstands. This system is not only side furniture, but also a series of cabinets located above the headboard, which are an effective remedy for the clutter usually created around the bed by books, glasses or a computer.

There was no way to miss a custom-made closet with sliding doors, decorated with a photo of a city landscape, which - no different - was created in Komandor's studio, which was also responsible for the design and installation of the bed. The graphic on the closet door, as well as the wallpaper in the study with a map of the world, which is the background for a glazed, traditional book display case of the same brand, are clear references to the apartment owner's travel passions. And finally, the two bathrooms, both of which are decorated in stone beiges and pay homage to the principle of organizing space with convenience of use and aesthetic consistency in mind. Drawers, cabinets, a dressing table and custom built-ins, encompassing the space above the toilet, which is often problematic to manage, will hide cosmetics or bathroom accessories from the eyes of guests.

The second bottom

The apartment project was created in two clearly distinguishable stages. The first was the development of the color concept and the layout of the furniture, which were left to the designer. Due to the simplicity of colors and forms, the work at this stage proceeded smoothly, and its effect was just as quickly accepted by the investor. The biggest challenge was yet to come. The owner of the apartment was devotedly involved in the design of individual pieces of furniture, focusing on their functional qualities to make sure that her items would find their proper place.

It was a painstaking and lengthy process ," admits Dominik Ćwiek , "The investor looked closely at the interiors of each development element. Every centimeter of space in the cabinets counted, the number of hangers, drawers, the layout of shelves. Each cabinet had an assigned function and the thing that would exist in that space after the move.

And it was also the investor who suggested turning to Komandor Group for help in implementing the design plans, confident that the domestic brand, which has specialized in built-in furniture for years, would be up to the task successfully.

It was the right choice ," assesses the designer today , "The cooperation went very smoothly due to the great commitment of the specialist, whose perfect measurements and professional installation ruled out any slip-ups or corrections.

The reward for joint hard work was the result, which more than met the expectations of an equally conscious and demanding owner.
