Sustainable construction for future generations

Steel - a versatile and sustainable choice

Did you know that steel is one of the few materials that is 100% recyclable? This makes it a much more sustainable building choice than other materials, as it can be repurposed or reused without creating hazardous waste. It also emits less CO₂ during production than other common building materials, such as aluminum, for example.

But that's not the only reason why steel is beloved by builders. It is also extremely easy to work with. Its properties make it easy to bend, form and cut, less prone to buckling, cracking and general weakening, and it blends seamlessly with many other materials.

Endless choices of designs and colors for GreenCoat® coated steel

If you're looking for a sustainable and cost-effective building material that looks impressive - whether it's part of a roof, facade or rainwater drainage system - GreenCoat® may be just what you've been looking for.

Our world-class outdoor tests - built to stand the test of time

Long product life plays an important role when choosing building materials. More than 10,000 GreenCoat® coated steel panels have been exposed to harsh climatic conditions throughout the year, including salt water, snow, ice, rain, UV radiation, high humidity, wind and storms, to ensure superior product performance. That's why we offer up to a 50-year warranty, and some GreenCoat® products already achieve the new corrosion and UV (Ruv5) and RC (RC5+) ratings according to the new EN10169:2022 standard.

SSAB fossil-free steel

SSAB has been producing steel solutions for the construction industry for more than 50 years. We already supply a unique, patented bio-coating using Swedish rapeseed oil for our GreenCoat® organic coated steels. As early as 2026, SSAB will be the first to introduce fossil fuel-free steel to the market. The byproduct of the steelmaking process will then be water, not carbon dioxide.

A GreenCoat® Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is available, which details how we produce GreenCoat® coated steel and take care of the product life cycle.
