Trouble in Paradise,
or the future of the world depends on the countryside.
Dedicated to the countryside, the exhibition in the Polish Pavilion for the upcoming 17th Venice International Architecture Biennale is designed by the curatorial collective PROLOG +1.
how will we live together?
The guiding theme of this year's International Architecture Exhibition is the question posed by the event's curator, Hashim Sarkis - "How will we live together?".
In the face of worsening political divisions and growing economic inequality, we call on architects to imagine spaces in which we can live together: together as human beings [...], together as a planet facing crises that require global remedies," Sarkis urges.
The PROLOG +1 collective seeks answers to this question in villages, places that are often marginalized and isolated.
The creators of the exhibition at the Polish Pavilion want to show that in times of growing local and global crises, rural areas are an essential element in building sustainable human environments. They propose that solutions to global problems should be sought in new ways of organizing rural areas and exploring the forces and processes that govern them, previously unrecognized by architects. They are convinced that the future of the world depends on the countryside, and that cities cannot exist without it. The idea of the project is to dialogue and confront experience, theory, education and practice from many places to look at the countryside with fresh eyes.
