How to maintain the historic character of the palace complex in Falenty and at the same time attract the local community to it? Students Wydział Architektury Politechniki Warszawskiej as part of the Conservation Project under the supervision of Dr. Eng. arch. Jakub Krzyczkowski created studies of architectural and conservation integration of the former orangery in Falenty.
The students were tasked with developing the revitalization of the former orangery, assigning a new function to the building, as well as designing a new accompanying structure. Their design work was preceded by research of the site, in-depth analyses of its state of preservation, surroundings and communication. The research revealed that the area lacked a meeting place for the local community, so a significant part of the projects was devoted to various forms of small catering or small cultural centers.
Below are excerpts from the prepared works.
Jakub Wiązowski - Palace and park complex in Falenty Center for the Creativity of Magdalena Abakanowicz
In Jakub Wiązowski's project, the old orangery will be transformed into an artistic fabric pavilion, referring to the work of Falenty-born artist Magdalena Abakanowicz. The pavilion will function as a workshop and educational space and will be adjacent to the exhibition pavilion. The author also envisaged converting the Falenty Palace into a hotel, as well as locating a restaurant there.

Maciej Wróbel - Project of an orangery with a poetry cafe and a workshop room
The author primarily assumed the restoration of the old orangery, which would serve as a café with a bar and space for artists. The project also envisages the creation of a contemporary block, visually referring to the original building. There the author planned to place a Workshop Room. The project is a response to the lack of a place that performs similar functions in the area, while surrounded by nature.

The author was keen to preserve the mood of peace and harmony created by the surrounding greenery. The designed volumes are therefore simple and modern, and their rhythm and proportions were adjusted to the landscape. The planned ceramics studio would create dishes for the adjacent cafe, as well as pots for plants.
