The first stage of the Wilga River Park in Krakow will soon be launched. The project under construction is a combination of the natural wealth found within the Wilga River and the expectations of local residents.
In mid-June, the first stage of the park's construction implemented by Krakow's Urban Greenery Management will begin. It will cover the area of Kopty Forest from Rzemieślnicza Street to Jana Brożka Street.
Wildlife on the Wilga River
The project to make the park accessible assumes the least possible interference with nature. Within the Wilga River there are many unique plant species - 161 vascular plants, 28 species of fungi, 49 species of birds, 6 species of bats and numerous amphibians and reptiles.
The following work will be carried out as part of Phase I:
- continuation of the bicycle path along the bed of the Wilga River, which will be illuminated for safety reasons. For this purpose, park lamps will be used, the light beam of which will be directed downwards, so as to minimize light pollution,
- paving of a minimum number of "forecourts" by making mineral surfaces of the hansegrand type,
- illumination of pedestrianpaths, but only at the main traffic route provided away from the Wilga riverbed,
- installation of small architecture elements, such as benches and trash garbage cans,
- agreen parking lot allowing park visitors to leave their cars with an access made of mineral-resin paving.
Earlier this year, the Urban Greenery Administration performed tree maintenance and removed trees near the forecourts that posed a danger. They will be replaced with native tree species compatible with habitat conditions. All the work carried out is to improve the functionality and recreational value of the site, which will delight visitors thanks to its unique natural charms. The works will not interfere with the bed of the Wiliga River, and the visualizations presented are for illustrative purposes.
