On June 21, the spring edition of the FOPA 2021 Festival of Open Architectural Studios was launched. The program included three days of meetings in architectural studios, both from Poland and abroad, which we visited via online broadcast.
The meetings were held at MANDAWORKS, 3DARCHITEKCI Z WIZJĄ and MEDUSA GROUP studios !

The festival is a great opportunity to get to know the best architectural offices from behind the scenes, take a look at their design and research methods, and meet the most interesting architects in their working environment. The spring edition of FOPY is a companion event to the International Congress on Regeneration of Industrial Cities - a joint initiative of the City of Lodz and Open Eyes Economy, which you can read about in the latest issue of A&B.

MANDAWORKS

Pracownia MANDAWORKS

MANDAWORKS is a progressive and contemporary design studio focusing on architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning and comprehensive planning. Based in Stockholm, the studio was founded in 2010 and is managed by partners Martin Arfalek and Patrick Verhoeven. The supportive, multidisciplinary design team includes thirteen nationalities and represents a creative mix of professional and educational backgrounds. The core team is complemented by a strong and growing network of collaborators in Europe, Asia and North America.

Kinga Zemla

Kinga ZEMŁA is an architect originally from Oświęcim. She studied at the Faculty of Architecture at the Cracow University of Technology, as well as TU Delft in the Netherlands. She completed an architectural internship at the Spanish studio Equipo Olivares Arquitectos. She defended her diploma on the issue of accessible housing at the Faculty of Architecture at the Royal University of Technology in Stockholm (KTH). She works at the Swedish urban planning office Mandaworks, but also writes about space in a broad sense. She is the winner of the Stefan Kurylowicz Foundation's "Theory" competition (2017), and also won first prize in the Architecture and Business reportage competition (2020). Her texts have so far appeared in "Builder", "Architektura & Biznes", "Zawodu: Architect", "Przekroj" and "Autoportret".

3DARCHITECTS WITH A VISION was founded in 2000 by Jakub Krzysztofik (author of the company's marketing strategy).

JakubKRZYSZTOFIK is an architect and urban planner, born in 1973, he received his diploma in 2000. Since 2000 he has been running his own design practice 3DARCHITECTS WITH VISION. He is the main designer of the urban planning concept for the area revitalization of the center of Lodz (Areas 1 and 4). Author of a number of completed and award-winning buildings. Among them, the Stara Drukarnia Office Building, the Słoneczne Tarasy Apartment Building, and the Laboratories of the Faculty of Environmental Protection of Łódź. After graduation, he completed doctoral studies, historic preservation, marketing and management, and a course in philosophy. Lecturer at the University of Lodz and the School of Art and Design. Since 2019, president of the Association of Polish Architects Lodz Branch.

Sylwia KRZYSZTOFIK is an architect and urban planner born in 1973, she received her diploma in 1999. She qualified in 2002 and received her doctorate in 2019. She is the co-author of the urban planning concept for the area revitalization of the center of Łódź (Areas 1 and 4), as well as local plans, urban studies and designs for public buildings. She is a lecturer at the Institute of Environmental Planning and Spatial Policy at the WNG of the University of Łódź and at the Institute of Architecture and Urban Planning at the Technical University of Łódź.

MEDUSA GROUP

medusa group was founded by architects Przemo Łukasik and Łukasz Zagała in 1997. The studio carries out projects related to architecture, urban planning, graphics and design. The studio's realizations receive numerous awards in architectural competitions and exhibitions in Poland and abroad. medusa group is based in Bytom at 35 Józefczaka Street and in Warsaw at 4 Twarda Street.

Przemo Łukasik

Przemo ŁUKASIK was born in Chorzow in 1970. He graduated from the department of architecture at the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice. He also studied at Ecole d'Architecture Paris-Villemin in Paris, France. After graduation, he worked in offices: P.P. Pabel Architekten in Berlin and the Paris offices of Jean Nouvel Architecture and Odile Decq / Benoit Cornette. In 1997, together with Lukasz Zagala, he founded the author's studio medusa group. For a year he taught at Ecole Speciale d'Architecture in Paris. Privately, he is strongly associated with sports - he practices triathlon, and is also socially involved in Silesia.
