As of May 12, two new exhibitions from the museum's collection - "Dialogue with Space" (which we wrote about here) and "Contemporary Models of Realism" - are on view at MOCAKin Krakow.
Although the term "realism" appeared only in the second half of the 19th century, the phenomenon of realistic representations applies to all eras in the history of art. In the popular perception, it is the faithful reproduction of reality that is often regarded as "good art." However, this is not what artists mean, they use the dialogue with real images to build their own ideas on their "flesh".

The artists use the sensitivity of the real image and create their own languages on this basis. They soften or brutalize it, mix or deform figures, introduce touches of absurdity, exaggerate and manipulate expressions, make colors unreal... In this way, they speak in realistic language about things that have little to do with the real image.

They show in their works the general sense of life, times and politics, as well as the accompanying moods, dreams and perversions. The exhibition "Contemporary Models of Realism" presents works that speak in the language of realism about everything that is currently important.
