What if we could design the perfect interior? Entirely ours and without any restrictions.... after all, we already have enough of them in many aspects of our lives. Freedom of creation and wellbeing was the main theme of this year's pearl competition, attracting a host of bold and ambitious interior designers.
"The competition for architects and interior designers - users of CAD Decor and CAD Decor PRO programs" has been organized for nine years by the editors of the quarterly "Around Ceramic Tiles" and CAD Projekt K&A, as part of the popular and highly regarded EU CERAMICS PERALS plebiscite. Despite difficult and uncertain times, this year's edition abounded in both the number of competition entries and their diversity.
The task was to design any interior with specially selected collections of ceramic tiles awarded the title Pearl of EU Ceramics 2020, Pearl of Ceramics of Distributors 2020 or Pearl of Ceramics of Designers - users of CAD Decor 2020. Full freedom in designing resulted in nearly 50 bold concepts, in which the motif of weelbeing and functionality of small rooms was very common. In the designed apartments and commercial interiors, the designers were very often inspired by nature and the change that has taken place in our lives. In the designed bathrooms, on the other hand, which traditionally had the highest number, large-format tiles, natural materials and lots of invigorating color were prevalent.
The competition, which began in mid-2020, consisted of two parts, as always. In the first part, after each of the three editions of the 2020 EU CERAMICS PERALS competition, users of CAD Decor PRO and CAD Decor voted for their favorite collections. The three titles of Pearl of Ceramics of Designers - CAD Decor 2020 users were awarded to the collections: COLOR CRUSH by Opoczno, CURIO by Tubądzin Group and GRANDEROCA by Ceramstic.
The second part of the competition already belonged to interior designers and architects and their amazing projects. The jury selected the three most interesting works, all very ambitious and designed with the spirit of the times.

First prize: music cafe "Unisono" - Żaneta Galor, Ante Studio of Interior Design.
The biggest design challenge in this competition, participant and winner of previous editions as well. Although her designs are always very expressive, this year she decided to impress even more. An ambitious and very coherent café design that stays in the head like a well-composed melody.
A few words from the winner Żaneta Galor, MA interior designer:
From my point of view, this is a difficult and therefore interesting competition. To present ceramic tiles to take advantage of their form, color, texture and technical properties is a great challenge and gives pure pleasure in design. The competition allows you to spread your wings, and the level, which rises from year to year, arouses the spirit of healthy competition. For me, competition design is freedom. Without restrictions, you can let go of your imagination and move into the zone of dreams. The reward for the effort, time and energy put in is, above all, great satisfaction.
Second prize: a separate part of a single-family house - Magdalena Rutkowska, 6 Walls Studio
For the author of this project, a small area is no limitation to create a functional, cozy and unique space. The motifs referring to nature are also an ideal option for now.
Excerpt from the project description of the winner Magdalena Rutkowska, 6 Walls Studio:
The color scheme of all rooms is inspired by the colors of nature, but kept in a monochromatic convention. There are beiges on the walls and ceilings, rubbed browns on questions imitating brown earth or rocks, gray and beige fabrics, natural wood. A black and white mural with a landscape of mountains and forest was used to emphasize the location of the house, which is in an area surrounded by trees. Metal furnishings such as: the profile structure behind the bed; the mirror frame in the communication; the leg for the dressing table; the frame of the sliding door or the towel rack in the bathroom bring a certain austerity to thearrangement, but thanks to the use of warm colors in the reception such as beiges and warm light colors in the suspended ceilings, it makes the interior cozy and pleasant to use.
Third prize: hair salon -.
Emilia Korabiec-Ziółkowska,
Emilia Korabiec Design
Elegant and very feminine design of a hair salon, where any woman will be able to really relax. The designer has kept this spacious interior, separated by exemplarily appropriate zones, in an interesting color scheme refining the smallest details.
A few words from the winner Emilia Korabiec-Ziolkowska:
I believe that every designer must be able to listen to the client and look at the interior through their eyes, get into their skin and create in accordance with themselves, but at the same time in accordance with the expectations of the principal - empathy in our profession is the key to success. Without it, no designer will understand that we design interiors for people, not for ourselves. So far, I have been watching the competition entries of my fellow designers with bated breath. To my surprise, in this edition I managed to join the ranks of the winners. Participation in the competition itself was motivated by a desire to see how my designs would be received by a group of professionals. So far, they have only been subject to evaluation by clients. I hesitated for a long time and, to tell the truth, I sent the project literally at the last minute. To take a place on the podium alongside such beautiful designs is a great honor for me. My competition project is a real commission carried out for a regular client. Since last year I have been working on the interior, which I finally decided to submit to the jury. The basic idea of the project was to create a universal space, where, upon crossing the salon door, every woman will immediately feel special.
The organizers also liked many other projects, especially those interior designers who decided to debut in this competition this year. You will see a lot of these projects in the attached competition presentation. Whether you're an interior designer, a fan of beautiful spaces or a manufacturer of home furnishings, you'll find plenty of inspiration and the rhythm of the latest trends.
