In the age of social media, popular mass production carries an oversaturation effect within months. As a result, more and more people are looking for rare or one-of-a-kind items. This desire also carries over to furniture - especially among those with money and an aversion to copying interiors from Instagram. Phenomenal pieces of furniture that have enjoyed enduring fame for decades are few in number, but the Jetson armchair certainly counts among this honorable group. As of recently, this and other models designed by Bruno Mathsson are available in the showroom of the DUXIANA brand in Cracow. We're rubbing our hands together, because the iconic Scandinavian brand is soon to appear in Warsaw as well.

DUXIANA, a Swedish manufacturer of furniture, beds and mattresses, became famous when their famous beds found their way into the world's best and highest-rated hotels. The brand with almost 100 years of tradition was brought to Poland by Agnieszka Bujak, and Kraków's DUXIANA immediately became a mecca for architects creating premium projects. The owner of the Polish branch says that a well-lived life is above all time for oneself and loved ones, but also surrounding oneself with beauty and furniture with soul. In addition to the already iconic DUX beds, she has a strong fondness for the brand's armchairs, designed decades ago, which are so timeless that they are still awaiting re-edition. In love with Scandinavian aesthetics, at 83 Tetmajera St. in Krakow, she has opened the door to the world of northern design, character-rich furniture, famous beds and brilliant DUX mattresses and accessories you won't find anywhere else.

From Värnamo to New York
In addition to the perfectly designed beds that DUXIANA is famous for, you'll find designs by Bruno Mathsson, a designer whose objects became recognizable in 1930. When an exhibition was held in the Swedish town of Värnamo that featured a chair of his design, the intriguing concept brought Mathsson a scholarship and a chance to develop his career. In 1937, a year after the exhibition at the Röhsska Arts and Craft Museum, Bruno Mathsson was already represented at the Paris Expo world exhibition, winning the Grand Prix for his "Paris" bed, and his furniture was recognized and appreciated by an international audience. Among those attending the exhibition was the director of the design department of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Edgar Kaufmann jr. who two years later, in 1939, commissioned Mathsson's chairs for the museum's new expansion. That same year, his furniture began to gain recognition, being shown at prestigious exhibitions, including the World Exposition in New York and the Golden Gate Exhibition in San Francisco.

History of the Jetson armchair
In the early 1960s, Bruno Mathsson became interested in using steel as a material for furniture, and quickly saw the possibility of creating a new kind of lightweight, durable furniture that combined timeless elegance with carefully crafted comfort. As with bent laminate furniture, he sought to minimize the amount of padding used, so that the form of the furniture itself provided comfort. In 1969, inspired by the dawn of the space age, Bruno Mathsson designed a steel armchair for DUXIANA. The futuristic-looking piece of furniture became known as Jetson. The armchair, with its distinctive bowl-like shape and ergonomic cushioned backrest, is available for official sale at the DUXIANA showroom in Krakow. The furniture is equipped with a chrome swivel base with a unique system of returning to the starting position and is available in many types of fabrics and leathers.

After many exciting conversations with Polish architects and interior designers, the showroom's owner, Agnieszka Bujak, is confident that she took the right path in deciding to promote Mathsson's work in Poland. His contribution to contemporary design art is invaluable. The works of one of the most important designers of the 20th century, along with DUX furniture and beds complementing the offer, can be seen and purchased at the DUXIANA showroom in Cracow, at 83 Tetmajera Street.
