Karpiel Steindel Architektura

The author's design office, founded in 2006 by Jan Karpiel Bułecka junior and Marcin Steindel, carries out projects under the "design and build" formula. Descendants of Wincenty Witos and Józef Bachleda-Curururur. Karpiel and Steindel recreate the traditions of Podhale village buildings in contemporary architecture, being regarded as successors of the so-called Zakopane style. Nevertheless, they were not afraid to collaborate with provocateur Zaha Hadid on a futuristic villa project in Zakopane. Their houses in the Tatra peaks are characterized by modernity, restrained detail and sensitivity to the context of the place. In 2017, they received the prestigious European Property Award for their design of the House in the Tatra Mountains recognized by the House of Lords as the best single-family house in Poland. In the same year, they received the main award of the Chambers of Architects and Civil Engineers for the building of the House in Tarnow. Their goal is to popularize the region's architecture abroad.
