How to ensure a green future for our cities? Which measures require central support, and which can be implemented from the local government level? When do we have to deal with greenwashing and when do we have to deal with real change for the better? These are the topics around which the upcoming World Urban Forum 11 will revolve.
Can Polish cities be more sustainable?
How should we adapt to climate change? Are Polish cities ready to make such changes? Where is the limit of possible transformations? What changes can be proposed by the local government and what changes can be proposed by the central government?
All these things were discussed in the podcast WUF11 - Cities of the Future, accompanying the upcoming international forum. The guest of the host of the radio show, Marcin Żebrowski, was Daniel Wąsik, head of the Urban Policy Department at the Strategy Department of the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy.
The podcast touches on climate commitments, what greenwashing is in urban policy, what recommendations are worth proposing, and what legislative changes should take place at the central government level. We encourage you to listen to the entire conversation(listen here).
"Action Plan for Cities".
Often conferences end and go away into oblivion, leaving nothing behind. In this case, it is to be different. After WUF11, two documents will remain. The "World Cities Report 2022" produced by UN-Habitat, and the "Action Plan for Cities," which is part of a broader project to point the way forward for sustainable development for Polish cities.
He realizes that there is doubt about the big events. There are more conferences that leave a carbon footprint that changes nothing. [...]. We set ourselves the goal, to put it in high terms, to leave a legacy of WUF11. That something would remain after this conference and change Polish cities. We came up with the "Action Plan for Cities" initiative. As part of WUF's publicity, we will mobilize cities to take bold action for sustainable transformation," points out Daniel Wąsik, head of the Urban Policy Department at the strategy department of the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy.
