Big changes start with small steps. This is known to Rawlplug, a global manufacturer of fasteners, which has launched the world's first expansion bolt made of 70 percent wood. The brand, with more than a century of tradition, is setting a new trend of building a value-based business and actively pursuing sustainability. All according to the principle that "do no harm" is definitely not enough these days.
The challenges facing the construction industry today are no longer just the effects of pandemics or the unstable geopolitical situation in Eastern Europe. The sector is increasingly having to ask itself how to effectively protect the environment. ReducingCO2 emissions, shortening the supply chain or producing closed-loop products are goals that are no longer an individual choice, but are becoming a necessity. In pursuit of international expansion, is it possible to care about the local ecosystem while taking responsibility for the climate future? Rawlplug is proving that yes.
Timber UNO - an ecological revolution in the lightweight fastening market
Green construction must cease to be just a fashionable slogan. After all, the construction industry is responsible for nearly 40 percent of global carbon dioxide emissions and generates about half a billion tons of waste annually, according to the Innovo Foundation. This is why efforts to decarbonize and reuse the raw materials used are so important.
In line with this idea, Rawlplug has produced the world's first dowel consisting of 70 percent wood. Timber UNO is a modern version of the brand's flagship product, the UNO dowel. It was designed to be suitable for anchoring in any substrate. Its versatility and all-around use mean that 9 UNO dowels are installed every second in the world! So it's no surprise that it's UNO that has gained a new eco-friendly variant.

The innovative compound used to make Timber dowels is environmentally friendly, as is the cardboard packaging in which the products are sold. Timber UNOs are recommended for all investments that implement the principles of sustainable construction.
Let's leave nature alone - rewilding local areas
Rawlplug's overarching strategic goal is to realize the principles of sustainable development. The company is successively implementing measures to reduce emissions, energy consumption and waste production, among others. Initiatives organized locally, including the rewilding of areas adjacent to the company's Wroclaw headquarters, located right on the Oder River, are an important element of the ongoing activities. The idea behind rewilding is to leave wild areas without human interference. This manages to support naturally occurring processes in nature, and the city ceases to be a place where plants and animals lose their own space.
Rawlplug has joined the "Wild in the City" campaign organized by the Wroclaw City Hall in cooperation with the Wroclaw Zoo and the Faculty of Biological Sciences at Wroclaw University. As part of the campaign, in the areas around the company's headquarters, scientists from the Faculty of Biological Sciences at the University of Wroclaw are conducting an inventory of the ecosystem located near buildings owned by Rawlplug. A team consisting of dendrologists, ethologists, ornithologists and entomologists, among others, is taking a closer look at the local flora and fauna. The result of this work will be the preparation of an educational path open to all residents of Wroclaw and the construction of stands allowing observation of wild animal species.
As you can see, the principle Think globally, act locally doesn't have to be just an empty platitude. Starting from often seemingly small changes, Rawlplug wants to show that changing the world for the better is within our reach.
