One of the few Swietokrzyskie mosaics adorning the facade of the Sędziszów community center is in danger of being destroyed. The Institute of Design in Kielce has initiated a petition to defend this unique work.

Decorating the two main facades of the Local Government Cultural Center, the abstract composition is one of the few, if not the last surviving ceramic decoration of this scale in the entire province. The building is currently undergoing a comprehensive renovation, with which the unique work will disappear. Designed and executed in 1966, the mosaic by Jan Karczewski is displayed on a decorative strip crowning the northern and eastern elevations of the community center. The artist, who previously took part, among others, in the making of the plafond of the Marble Cabinet in the Royal Castle, was for many years associated with the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. From 1977 to 1981 he was a docent at the Faculty of Painting, where he led the Studio of Problems of Painting in Architecture. He realized works in the field of monumental painting and mosaics.
The only one of its kind in the region

The Sędzisz composition has high artistic qualities. It has also permanently blended into the city's landscape, being one of the few art objects in its publicspace. The placement of the artistic work on the frieze of the building emphasizes the cultural function of the building. It is also a reminder of the city' s railroad history - the mosaic was funded by contributions from railroad employees.

The building of the Local Government Cultural Center located at 26 Dworcowa Street is a building from the mid-1960s. Apart from an auditorium built a few years ago, the edifice has not been renovated for several decades. As part of the ongoing work, the building is scheduled for thermal modernization, replacement of windows, doors and installations. At the same time, work will be carried out on a thorough modernization of the building's interior.
This is most likely the only work of its kind in the entire province. We cannot allow it to be destroyed.
