{tag:studenci} - A student at the Faculty of Construction, Environmental Engineering and Architecture at Rzeszow University of Technology, as part of her engineering thesis, proposed a "Project for the revitalization of a post-industrial area on the Millennium Housing Estate in Rzeszow, together with a concept for the development of recreational areas on the Wislok River." She did the work under the supervision of Prof. Anna Sikora.

new urban layout
Thanks to the design analysis, the boundaries of the area to be transformed were determined. An analysis of the existing buildings and an assessment of the technical condition of the buildings, based on an inventory of the site, showed that the best urban design solution would be to remove the current post-industrial buildings and create a new, comprehensive development grid. The function of multi-family residential development with ground-floor services was chosen to be a continuation of the development located on the western side of Siemieńskiego Street. Such a layout made it possible to create a neighborhood operating in the convention of a fifteen-minute city.

Multifunctional neighborhoods are safer because their diversity of functions promotes the activity of residents and provides constant supervision. New architectural forms will replace existing post-industrial buildings, creating a clearer and more logical urban layout with sequenced views. The designed urban fabric is to be in line with the concept of a green and sustainable city, which means that the development will be enriched with green areas that will improve air quality and the overall perception of the space. The roofs of the buildings are designed as green extensive roofs. In the northern part of the project area, a space related to the cultural and social integration center has been located, including a square that will serve as a cultural extension of the entire complex.

Improving mobility in the Millennium Estate
The planned traffic transformation includes the construction of a new road system for vehicles and accompanying infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists, providing high-quality paths for both groups. The streets have been designed in the form of curves, which will reduce the possibility of vehicles developing excessive speeds, thus improving safety. Pedestrians will be prioritized in the new transportation space, which will help create a safer and more friendly environment for all users and users.

Creation of recreational areas on the Wislok River
One of the key elements of the project was the concept of a waterfront with a recreational area function. The main goal was to integrate the riverside space with the city, thus creating an urban environment that fits in with the principles of sustainable development. During the design of this space, consideration was given to both the protection of the riverside areas and investment pressures, requiring the integration of these areas into the urban fabric to make them an integral part of it.

The Waterfront was designed as a public space dominated by green areas. An important element of the waterfront is a wide slope, providing an attractive accent to its appearance. The space has been divided into three levels, connected by off-road stairs and ramps for people with disabilities. In addition, the slopes will feature seating surrounded by lush greenery.

The designof the waterfront takes into account aspects of flood protection: the riverbed is left intact, and the widening of the riverbank allows the new levels to act as dikes. Integration with areas on the other side of the Wislok River, where future recreational areas are planned, is also an important element of the project. Already at the design stage, consideration was given to how pedestrian and bicycle traffic would take place between the river banks and the pedestrian bridge, which, with its original form, is intended to complement the project.

Paulina Źrebiec's project presents a comprehensive approach to the revitalization of brownfield sites, taking into account both urban and environmental aspects. The work shows how brownfields can be integrated with modern, green urban infrastructure, creating a space that is friendly to residents and the environment.
