Another edition of stationary AUTHOR 'S LECTURES by Maciej Franta of the Franta Group studio is behind us! On April 23 we were guests of the Faculty of Architecture at the Gdansk University of Technology, and on April 24 of the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology. Students had the opportunity to learn about the "Road to the Profession" of a successful architect, as well as to discuss their own expectations and concerns about their future professional work.

The April meetings were the next edition of lectures from the series: ROAD TO PROFESSION, hosted by Maciej Franta - founder of the architectural studio Franta Group Architects, who in 2022 was included in the 40 under 40 list (40 most promising European architects before the age of 40). In 2023, along with A&B, the architect visited Krakow University of Technology, Silesian University of Technology, Poznan University of Technology and Wroclaw University of Technology. This time we were able to discuss with students of the Faculty of Architecture at Gdansk University of Technology and Warsaw University of Technology.

architect, or creator of the surrounding world
Maciej Franta began his story with the author's definition of the term: architecture. In his opinion, the quintessence of the architect's profession is the creation of the surrounding reality and solving urban problems, not just constructing buildings. Creativity is related to expanding one's competence and drawing ideas from other fields of art, including pop culture. This comprehensive philosophy of creation is reflected in the projects implemented by his studio, such as Żorro, Cosmo and the award-winning Villa Reden.

realizing social needs
For Maciej Franta, cooperation with other architects and creative team discussions are extremely important. The idea of the Franta Group studio is primarily about being close to people and realizing their needs. The most important thing is to make future residents feel comfortable in their spaces, so that the quality of their lives can be improved. At the same time, the architect emphasized the important role of dialogue with the investor, which influences the realization of the creative vision, while allowing profit from the sale of new properties.

The second part of the meeting consisted of questions from female and male students, which were answered by the invited guest. An extremely important topic was the issue of employment of young graduates of architecture departments. They asked about paid internships in studios and employers' expectations of new employees. Maciej Franta stressed that the most important issue for him is ingenuity and commitment. For his studio he looks for people characterized by out-of-the-box thinking and ready to subject their ideas to constructive criticism. Such employees are highly valued by him, which entails appropriate compensation for their work.

The students also discussed Franta Group projects. They were interested in technical solutions, inquiring about the practical use of balconies and terraces, as well as the motif of black that runs through the studio's designs.

Maciej Franta encouraged young people to actively participate in events concerning architecture, such as lectures and competitions. He also spoke about the need to confront ideas with other people and to boast about their achievements. After all, the architectural profession requires that you be your own manager. Only then is there a chance that the world will hear about him and benefit from the spatial solutions he proposes.
