We have already presented the winners of the Architecture of the Year of the Silesian Voivodeship 2019 competition[here]. On October 22, we also recognized the winners of the annual competition for the Best Public Space of the Silesian Voivodeship, organized by the Board of the Silesian Voivodeship in cooperation with the Katowice branches of SARP and the Society of Polish Urban Planners.
The purpose of the competition is to develop and make qualitative changes in public space, increase social and economic activity, raise awareness of the shaping of space, and promote designers who create high-quality urban and architectural solutions. The jury awarded prizes and honorable mentions in the categories of public space and public facility, and the winner of the internauts' prize was selected. Congratulations to all the winners!

Award of the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship: Development of the area after the former Sunday Recreation Center for the promotion of natural and cultural heritage - stage I in Jastrzębie-Zdrój, proj.: Paweł Kuczyński, ARCHiTEKT design studio.
As explained by the jury, the award was given for:
creating, or in fact rebuilding, the potential of a former resort by creating an interesting, multifunctional meeting and recreation space, well integrated into the forested hilly landscape, addressed to various social groups. The solution is expected and accepted by different age groups, as confirmed by the site visit. We look forward to the implementation of the second stage with high hopes.
Award of the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship: Development of the local market in Ruda Śląska - Orzegowo, design: Jacek Leśko.
The award was given for:
elegant, modest and respectful of the surrounding historical and monumental buildings, cleaning up a neglected area, introducing a recreational function - giving a local centripetal nucleus in a socially and economically difficult district of the city.
Award of the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship: Development of a part of Jaworznickie Planty with a water playground, proj.: Robert Skitek, RS+.
The project was awarded for:
Consistent revitalization of post-industrial areas in the form of green plantations complementing private, commercial development with green social infrastructure. For introducing, with great panache, a new attraction into this developing green city stretch.

Silesian Marshal's Award: Library Station - revitalization of the historic railroad station building in Ruda Śląska - Chebzie, design: Krzysztof Kulik.
As we read in the justification of the jury, the award was given for:
a bold attempt to revitalize the historic railroad station building by imposing the function of a library, which creates an opportunity for social and cultural revitalization for the local community. For successfully combining the function with the railroad station, including in the architectural detail.
Award of the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship and the award of internauts: Thermal modernization of the MBP Main Library building in Sosnowiec at 11 Kościelna Street, designed by Arkadiusz Miśkiewicz.
The award was given for:
creating a multi-generational meeting place for residents. A place that stimulates to interpret the space also around the building, to social, cultural and even physical activity. For the successful use of the building, for respecting and elegantly enriching its architecture with modest means of expression, in spite of a major remodeling and modernization, in keeping with the direction of reuse - the strategy of sustainable development. Examples of this have already been awarded the European Mies van der Rohe Architecture Prize twice. The name of the project unfortunately does not reflect its scale or significance.
Distinction of the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship: Construction of a nursery along with the development of the area of the School Complex No. 3 in Rybnik, on Orzepowicka Street, in the Maroko - Nowiny district, proj.: Grzegorz Siergiej, SIERGIEJ STUDIO ARCHITECTURY
The award was given for:
simple and clear contemporary spatial and functional disposition, as well as obtaining the climate of the object and its interiors, adequate to the imagination of a child. For creating an object that, through its function and the means of expression used, "educates" many generations from an early age.
