distinction 1.degree, herbarium project in Wroclaw

The jury justifies its decision this way:
Herbarium is a successful attempt to combine nature with architecture in a way in which the existing native vegetation is an important element of the site's context. Selected local plants with medicinal properties will be grown aeroponically in a climate-controlled building in a ring plan. The interior of the ring will be filled with a naturally-grown meadow. The location of the herbarium at the end of the recreational axis of a large housing estate with greenery, so called, will sensitize its residents to the problem of greenery in the city and the negative effects of the urban heat island on it.

The author of the project, undertook a not easy task. The difficult layout of the plot and spatial relationships was not the only challenge. The author decided to look for direct connections between space and philosophy, creating a universal Dialogue Center. She attempts to authorially unite a divisive society. Her project is intended to be an attempt at dialogue of multiple cultures and identities. This is a very responsible, necessary and how contemporary challenge. The architectural answer is simple, restrained and weighted with moderation in form and detail.
Another honorable mention was awarded to Alicja Sienkiewicz, author of the work entitled The Potential of Binder. Complementing the existing urban and social structure on the example of Rome, prepared at the Faculty of Architecture, Wrocław University of Technology, under the supervision of the supervisor Dr. Mark Lamber.

The project attempts to repair parts of Rome's 5th district with small-scale architectural interventions. Filling hard-to-build gaps in the urban structure with small objects with functions that integrate the local community (community center, viewpoint, coworking) is intended to help residents overcome their sense of loneliness. The ambitious goal of the project is to return common Italian feasts to the streets of Rome, an image remembered by the author from her childhood travels in Italy.

The designers marked the anthropological footprint with a modular structure of the complex made of units called molecules in the thesis.
