In just a moment, in the very center of Gdynia, the construction of an apartment building - Rezydencja Plac Kaszubski by Arch-Deco Sp. z o.o. - will start. The intimate residential and commercial building refers to the city's interwar architecture, while large panes of curved glass give it a contemporary feel.
Kaszubski Square, one of the most important places in Gdynia, will see the closing of its development after many years. At the intersection of Jana z Kolna Street and Kaszubski Square construction of an intimate residential building begins, with its character reminiscent of the city's interwar architecture. Responsible for the design of the apartment building are architects from the Arch-Deco office in Gdynia, known for its references to modernism.

reference to Gdynia modernism
The Kaszubski Square area is a place of great importance to the city's identity - it was here, in the early days of Gdynia's formation, that its heart beat. The Kaszubski Square residence will be directly adjacent to an elegantly renovated and landscaped square with a fountain, as well as historic buildings from the interwar period. Together with the investor, we knew from the beginning that the appearance of the building under construction is almost "condemned" to references to Gdynia modernism," explains architect Michał Baryżewski.

References to modernist architecture can be easily found in both the shape of the building's body and its interior. Looking at the seven-story façade, the corner bay window with its characteristic embellishment comes to the fore. The architects used large sheets of curved glass in it, introducing modern solutions to the whole project. The building is kept in bright colors - quartz sinters will be used to finish the facade from the side of Kaszubski Square.

elegance and modernity
The facade on the side of Jana z Kolna Street takes on a more austere form, reflected in the simple geometric divisions of the block. Noteworthy are the strips of wide balconies finished with anthracite-colored steel balustrades. The withdrawal of the top floor in relation to the facade has given it a lightness and made it possible to create spacious terraces assigned to the largest and highest located apartments. Common areas, such as the entrance to the building, staircases, elevator zones and corridors were designed with attention to detail. The representative character of the entrance area is broken by wooden elements repeated also in other common parts of the building.

As Paweł Kwiecień of Arch-Deco says about the interiors of the apartment building:
We introduced large-format façade sinters into the interiors and used large divisions, characteristic of the building's facade. We wanted to make the interiors a continuation of the appearance of the block. We tried to maintain associations with the elegance of Gdynia modernism by appropriate selection of furnishings, alluding to it in style and material, or the use of characteristic curved corners in the lobby or corridors. At the same time, we wanted to create a warm, homely atmosphere. We fulfilled this premise by using wood on the elevator and door portals, wallpaper that gives softness to the walls, warm colors and natural lighting.

an intimate residential and commercial building
The townhouse has been divided into three functional zones. The first floor, in the overhang arcade, will house four commercial premises, accessible directly from the square and the street. The first through fifth floors will feature apartments of various sizes, each with a balcony, terrace or loggia. The top floor will feature the most comfortable apartments, ranging in size from 100 to over 160 square meters, with terraces the size of 62 square meters.

Reaching three meters in height, all apartments and large windows mounted at floor level will give the interiors spaciousness, illuminate them and emphasize the scenic qualities of the location. A courtyard accessible only to residents located at the rear of the building will feature a green patio with a playground and a hidden entrance to the underground garage.
