Regeneration of Industrial Cities. International Congress in Lodz

26 of April '21

Łódź, a city with two hundred years of industrial tradition, will host the first International Congress on Regeneration of Industrial Cities this June - a joint initiative of the City of Łódź and Open Eyes Economy.

The Congress will provide an opportunity for a comprehensive debate on the problems of urban regeneration and the role of the business community in this process, the importance of cultural and industrial heritage as a revitalization resource - Łódź, due to its industrial history and progressive revitalization, is an ideal place to organize an international debate on the future of industrial cities, says Adam Pustelnik, Deputy Mayor of Łódź and Member of the Congress Program Council.

Scheduled for June 22-23 this year, the meeting will be held in a hybrid formula (live at the EC1 complex and on a virtual platform). The event will consist of twelve thematic blocks and special plenary sessions. The program will also include formulas familiar from past OEES congresses - forty hours of discussions, skirmishes, talks and lectures on, among other topics, new industrial policy, the new life of brownfield sites and facilities, urban meeting places, retroversy and inner-city mobility.

One hundred and fifty guests from all over the world have already confirmed their participation in the congress - including representatives of local governments and city organizations, architects, investors, developers, as well as representatives of the younger generation - students of Łódź universities.

One of the pillars of Open Eyes Economy is the concept of CITIES-IDEI - sustainable cities, planned in a thoughtful way. When talking about cities with a rich industrial heritage, it is important to remember that these are areas of developmental opportunity, not problem and stagnant areas. After a period of thoughtless policy of deindustrialization of European cities, the slogan of reindustrialization of Europe is emerging after the global financial crisis of 2007-2009, and the importance of manufacturing is taking on a new meaning in development," explains Professor Jerzy Hausner, Chairman of the Congress Program Council.
