Renovated train stations on the Hel Peninsula. The metamorphosis has come to Jastarnia

31 of May '24

The train stations on the Hel Peninsula, besieged in the summer, are no longer a source of shame. The latest metamorphosis took place in Jastarnia, where at a cost of PLN 11 million the railroaders renovated a historic building from the 1920s.

The train stations in Hel, Puck, Władysławowo and Kuźnica are located along the charming Reda-Hel railroad line 213. Recently, these facilities - with better or worse results - have seen renovations. Now the railroaders have transformed the appearance of another tourist station - in Jastarnia. The building was erected in 1924, but its glory days were long behind it. During the works, which lasted nearly two years, it regained its historical character.

colors of natural brick

The facade was finished with hand-formed clinker tiles in the color of natural brick, with which bronze windows and doors harmonize, as well as ceramic roof tiles and copper flashings, gutters and sills.

The shelter in front of the entrance to the passenger service area got a new look. It was made of steel painted in graphite color. Under the ceiling of the shelter, aluminum decorative elements imitating natural wood in the color of golden oak were installed. It also has a glass roof, at the edge of which an illuminated sign with the name of the station was placed, and bicycle racks were installed underneath, PKP S.A. informs.

not without controversy

Initially, the controversy was caused by the disfiguring air conditioners, which the railroaders - as in Wladyslawow earlier - installed on the facade. However, while in Wladyslawowo, under pressure, the railroaders decided to demolish them, in Jastarnia they opted for a different solution. The hardly aesthetically pleasing equipment was encased with openwork elements in the colors of the station's facade.

The passenger service area also underwent a metamorphosis. The floor of the lobby was finished with tiles imitating wood and stone, creating a geometric pattern. The walls up to the height of the lampposts were covered with large-format stoneware panels in gray, and painted white above. Changes have been made to the station's surroundings: there is new paving, designated parking spaces, bicycle racks and small architecture.

The total cost of the reconstruction of the station in Jastarnia is nearly PLN 11 million gross. The investor is Polskie Koleje Państwowe S.A. (Polish State Railways). MERX sp. z o.o. of Warsaw is the contractor, and the design documentation was prepared by Paka Architekci sp. z o.o. of Skierniewice.
