Marcin Tomaszewski of {tag:pracownie} faced an interesting challenge. Investors who approached the architect bought a plot of land with a house, which they did not want to demolish but remodel. This is how RE: REDWOOD HOUSE was created, with a dark body, perfectly fitting into the forest surroundings.

Architect Marcin Tomaszewski was asked to remodel a 20-year-old house. Taking advantage of the existing block projection, he proposed a house characteristic of his style - a forest retreat for the new owners. The black facade of the house, with an area of as much as 550 square meters, gives the impression of two separate blocks in the style of a modern barn connected by a glass link. Also the interior of the house is kept in dark colors, but the combination of appropriate materials and color tones gives it a cozy character.

total transformation
This two-story building with a gabled roof is based on the existing house in its form, but the difference in perception is dramatic. The lump is formed by two barns connected by a connector, both of which closely relate to each other. The cut glass corners modernized the mass, in turn, the windows in the corners are an added element, from which there is a beautiful view of the forest," explains the architect.

The reference to the contemporary barn form allowed the architect to create zoning in the interiors. As a result, there are many open spaces in the house with a clearly marked function. The resulting massing complements the surroundings and blends in with the forest landscape. The wooden facade and its dark finish will make the whole building blend in with the surrounding nature.
forest in the interiors
A recurring element in the interiors are specially designed lamps

The architect also proposed a similar forest-like setting in the interiors. Marcin Tomaszewski opted for natural materials - large amounts of wood on the ceiling and concrete on the floor. Everything in kept in blacks and grays. The living room is adjacent to the dining room and kitchen, which uses a lot of lacquered fronts, reflecting the light coming through the numerous windows. These spaces are connected by custom-made lamps - which resemble branches in appearance.
In my vision, the lamps were meant to look like branch installations in the living room. They have few points of light, and therefore do not illuminate the entire space - just like in a forest, when sunlight only partially breaks through the trees," says Marcin Tomaszewski.

On the same floor there is also a bedroom where.... live trees grow. Stone also appeared in this space, and coziness is given by heavy velour materials. Adjacent to the bedroom is a spacious dressing room, reminiscent of a luxury boutique with exposed clothes and adequate lighting. An important element of the house is the bathroom in earthy colors - spacious, reminiscent of a room carved in rock. Next to an impressive bathtub the size of a small swimming pool there are comfortable armchairs. Also attracting attention are huge mirrors and towel rails, which are let down directly from the ceiling.

The investors also took care of their guests. With them in mind, they created a completely separate space - a guest cottage with a pool and a terrace, the body of which blends perfectly with the main house. Here, too, the architect used a lot of glazing, and the kitchen, dining and lounge areas form a whole. The area of this house is 160 square meters, and its arrangement is consistent with the interior of the investors' house. The building is an ideal place for entertaining and relaxation.
