Do you want to help in the fight against drought ? As of June 1 this year, the Environmental Management Department of the Cracow City Hall will begin accepting applications from residents of Cracow who would like to benefit from a grant for the construction of a system to collect and use rainwater and snowmelt.
The City of Krakow, in an effort to address climate change, which is causing a decrease in water resources, has since 2014 been providing a targeted grant under Krakow's small rainwater retention program for the construction of systems to collect and use rainwater.
How to save water?
Scant water precipitation and a mild winter are causing more and more people to start thinking about how to save dwindling water resources. Drought is already a fact of life. Sensible water management is therefore crucial. As part of adaptation to climate change, for example, collecting rainwater and using gray water is very important. Collected rainwater can be used for watering the lawn, garden, as well as for household purposes, such as flushing the toilet, laundry or cleaning.
Krakow to help fight drought
In March of this year, Kraków city councilors passed a new resolution under which residents can expect more financial support than before. The amount of the subsidy depends on the solution used. A subsidy of 80 percent of the costs incurred can be counted on by those who build an underground tank for rainwater and snowmelt (no more than PLN 6,000 - for a tank with a capacity of up to 5 m³, PLN 8,000 - for a tank with a capacity of more than 5 m³ to 10 m³, and PLN 10,000 - for a tank with a capacity of more than 10 m³).
Water tanks and bioretention systems
Support will also be available for the construction of an above-ground, enclosed, free-standing tank for rainwater and snowmelt, along with an installation for connection to a gutter (depending on the capacity of the tank, from PLN 200 to PLN 500). In turn, a maximum of PLN 12,000 can be received by those who decide to construct systems for: bioretention, drainage collecting rain water and snowmelt (excluding drainage of roads and parking lots) or irrigation of green areas, wooded areas and gardens.
For whom the subsidy?
Entities not included in the public finance sector will be eligible to apply for subsidies: in particular, individuals, housing communities, legal entities, entrepreneurs and units of the public finance sector that are municipal or district legal entities.
The call for applications is scheduled to start on June 1 this year. Prior to that, information about it will appear in the Public Information Bulletin, where it will also be possible to find specimens of subsidy applications, specimens of the agreement and specimens of applications for subsidy settlement.
