A few weeks ago we wrote about Łódź's planned changes within Dąbrowski Square adjacent to the Grand Theater. We know the authors of the latest concept, which will change the character of this part of the city by one hundred and eighty degrees.
Henry Dabrowski Square underwent a major reconstruction thirteen years ago, which today is considered completely impractical and unnecessary. The city has come up with an initiative for an urban metamorphosis of the place. The latest concept was developed by a consortium of studios MamArchitekci and A2P2.
The reconstruction of Dabrowski Square, carried out in 2009, is one of the most misguided investments in Lodz. Trees were removed from in front of the Grand Theater and a clumsy fountain was built, which is nowhere near the one shown in the design. It's time to change it! The city has just selected, through a competition, the studios to give the square a new shape. - The best concept was prepared by a consortium of mamArchitekci and A2P2. It is a well-thought-out proposal covering every aspect of the square's use , says Maciej Riemer, director of the Department of Ecology and Climate.

how can the square change?
What metamorphoses would Dabrowski Square undergo? The concept developed by mamArchitekci and A2P2 is primarily dominated by greenery. New rows of trees would appear within the square. The fountain designed by Rafal Szrajber would also be changed, to be transformed into a pond. The flower shops' kiosks would be relocated to new pavilions located on the plaza itself. The space itself is also to be open for skaters to use the infrastructure.

Our proposal is a sketch that shows the direction we want to take. This concept is an invitation to discussion and an introduction to talks. We are not prejudging any solutions here. This will be a community project, which will be created in cooperation with both residents and industry professionals, " says Lukasz Pancewicz of A2P2 architectural studio.
For now, the concept is the starting point for public consultations, which will begin after the vacations. It is on the basis of these consultations that the final shape of the square will be formed. Construction work is scheduled to begin in 2023. It is to be hoped that the new concept will live much longer than the previous one.
