How to arrange an interior in the Dark Academia style? What exactly is this style? We present 5 things that are necessary when creating such an interior.
Dark Academia - a style inspired by the academic culture often associated with classical universities such as Oxford and Cambridge. It is a mix of fascination with literature, philosophy, history, art and the darker aspects of life, such as transience and melancholy. The aesthetic often refers to Gothic-style architecture , Baroque and retro elements from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Characteristic of this style is nostalgia for the past and a love of the classics.
Immerse yourself in reading
Books are a key element of this style. Dark Academia-inspired interiors are full of bookcases, which often reach from floor to ceiling. They are, of course, filled with striking hardcover volumes. Here, the readings also gain a decorative function. Ideally, they should be displayed in a way that is reminiscent of classic university libraries - on dark wood shelves. You can also put small stacks of books on desks, tables or windowsills.

Noble colors
The interior in this style is supposed to be mysterious, but cozy. Therefore, deep, saturated colors such as bottle green, burgundy, deep navy blue, dark brown and classic black dominate, adding elegance and solemnity to the interior. They are often complemented by subtle touches of gold, brass or creamy white, which brighten up the space, giving it a touch of warmth.

Furniture with history
Choose antiques or vintage-style furniture, preferably made of dark wood such as mahogany or walnut. A classic desk, chairs upholstered in leather or velvet, bookcases - these are key elements of this style. Showcases, massive bookshelves and leather armchairs will add an academic touch to the interior.

Atmospheric light
As the name suggests, interiors in this style are dark and a bit gloomy. To achieve this effect, bet on soft, warm light. Vintage-style lamps, especially those with lampshades, as well as ornate wall sconces and chandeliers, will work great. Spot lighting, focusing on key elements of the decor, such as the desk, bookshelf or painting, will emphasize the mysterious atmosphere. And don 't forget decorative candlesticks to add nostalgic charm.

Classic accessories
Dark Academia style decorations include globes, ancient maps, paintings depicting historical portraits or landscapes. Old clocks, mirrors in ornate frames and stylized candlesticks will also be perfect. Introduce fabrics into the interior as well, such as velvet or tweed, they can appear in the form of blankets, pillows or curtains.
