Six train stations in the Poprad Valley will undergo a metamorphosis. PKP plans to modernize historic buildings and build brand new facilities.
PKP has already handed over the construction site to the contractor - the train stations will undergo a metamorphosis in Milik, Mlodow, Piwniczna, Stary Sacz and Zegiestow and Zegiestow-Zdroj. As part of the work, the buildings are to improve not only their aesthetics, but also their functionality and accessibility for people with limited mobility. The surrounding squares and parking lots will also be rebuilt. In part, these are reconstructions of historic buildings, and in two locations completely new stations will be built.

The start of rebuilding stations in Milik, Młodów, Piwniczna, Stary Sącz and Żegiestów and Żegiestów-Zdrój is another element of the great modernization of the Polish railroad. Poprad Valley residents will thus gain access to safe and comfortable rail infrastructure. I hope that the modernized buildings of all these stations will become landmarks of the aforementioned localities, important centers of local communities, and will make it easier for passengers to travel by rail in the Novosadecki district. All this is thanks to the Railway Station Investment Program, under which the Polish government will allocate more than PLN 2 billion for the modernization of nearly 200 railway stations by 2023.

design and build
The planned completion date for the investments involving the reconstruction and construction of railway stations in Żegiestów, Żegiestów-Zdrój, Piwniczna, Milik, Młodów and Stary Sącz is early 2023. The investor is the Polish State Railways, and SKB S.A. is responsible for the design and construction of the conversions. - no competition was organized in this case, and the contractor for the project was selected through a tender.
Małopolska has been betting on rail transportation for many years. We are investing in trains and technical facilities to create a modern infrastructure that makes it easier for residents to function every day and encourages tourists visiting the region to explore its farthest corners. Modernization of the following stations in the Poprad Valley: in Milik, Młodów, Piwniczna, Stary Sącz and Żegiestów and Żegiestów-Zdrój will translate into a higher standard of living for Małopolska's residents also in terms of ecology - thanks to such investments, people traveling in the region are more likely to give up car transport and choose environmentally friendly railroads.

new face of monuments
The Żegiestów-Zdrój train station, built in 1876, is the most architecturally interesting building of its kind in the Poprad Valley. As part of the reconstruction, the historic body of the station will remain unchanged, but the interior of the building and its surroundings will undergo a metamorphosis. The higher part will be painted in a light color, while the lower first floor will undergo conservation of the wooden facade cladding, as well as the shed, which has an interesting colonnade and openwork balustrade. A novelty will be its partial glazing, which will increase the space for serving travelers inside the building. A summer waiting room will be located under the rest of the shelter. The station will also get a new night illumination highlighting the body of the building and the entrance space from the side of the platforms.

Other historic stations where construction work has begun are the stations in Zegiestow and Piwnicza. The buildings are very similar to each other, although the station in Piwniczna is slightly larger. The former was built in 1908, and the latter in 1928. The facade of each building will undergo renovation, along with architectural details on them, in the form of pilasters, cornices or decorative brick threads.

Among the stations where construction work has begun are buildings being built from scratch. These are the small stations in Milik and Mlodow, which the authors intend to combine modern style with mountain architecture. Their distinctive feature is the large-scale glazing in the facade, where a waiting room has been designed inside the building. In Milik, the facade will be partially finished with a wood-looking basalt cladding, while in Mlodow it will be finished with brick.
general reconstruction
The last of the six facilities is the station in Stary Sącz. It will be completely rebuilt. The mass of the station will be supplemented with a dominant feature in the form of a clock tower located in the central part of the building. The interior of the building will include space for travelers' service, premises for rent and rooms provided for the local government.
