Murals in interiors - a contemporary form of frescoes

30 of April '20

Many cities boast great murals - provocative, beautiful, funny or mood-enhancing. Even mural-advertisementsare more attractive than large billboards hung on buildings. Although this way of displaying messages in the urban fabric is not innovative, it still impresses passersby. Recently, a popular practice is to move these large-format paintings to interiors.

Murals are increasingly appearing in modern offices as an inspiring interior design element. They increase work efficiency and stimulate creativity. Art has made its way into one of the premises of a major operator of flexible office space. This is not the end of the novelties. A unique mural recently appeared at CitySpace Nobilis Business House. It depicts the image of Nobel Prize winner Maria Curie-Sklodowska.

Our offices are located on a street named after her, and additionally the word "Nobel Prize winner" refers to the name of the office building - "Nobilis". - explains Magdalena Śnieżek, regional manager of City Space Wrocław.

The second protagonist of the painting is Goliath - a circus tent with a commercial function that is very well known in Wroclaw, which once stood in close proximity to the office building.

Inspirations from the world

Murals in offices are an increasingly popular phenomenon. They come in a variety of shapes and colors. Sometimes they are monochromatic like those at the Bank of China in Beijing, others teem with a fever of colors. Office murals refer to places, history, people or the company's identity, such as at a well-known skyscraper, where a new set of murals and murals decorated the interior to mark the 90th anniversary of its completion. Elsewhere in the famous building, the ceiling features scenes from the production line and the history of industrial progress.

For CitySpace, an element of the organization's identity is its identification with the city, as evidenced by the themes of the new mural. The author of "Goliath," as the painting is called, is the Kolektyf group. According to the authors and the ordering party, the mural is more than just a pretty wall. It is a way of presenting the company's values, and also has a positive impact on the quality and efficiency of work.

The results of surveys conducted in the US show that art at work helps lower stress levels, increases creativity and encourages people to express their own opinions , Magdalena Sniezek recalls , while studies in the UK have proven that the presence of art increases the efficiency of operations , she adds.

Increased creativity and productivity

Due to their high visual appeal, versatility and effectiveness in inducing positive states in employees, murals are being used by leading new technology companies such as Google, Nokia and Facebook. The same reasons make murals an excellent form of office decoration for all industries. There are several arguments for this.

First, this kind of decoration does not take up space, but only uses the existing one, clearly improving it. Secondly, the murals enliven the interior and add freedom. Third, they can tell the story of a company or place - they are an element of communication with employees. And fourth, they enhance creativity and productivity - they provide an effect that supports creative work.

It is for these reasons that we decided to go with a mural. There is a lot of creative, imaginative work in our offices, there are companies engaged in innovation, new technologies, creating new products and services, " explains Magdalena Sniezek.

Flexible working hours

This is not the end of the novelties at CitySpace. Another is the day office, a system that combines working from the office with remote work. An office for rent for a short period of time gives employees the flexibility they need these days. It allows them to decide when to work from the office and when to work from home, depending on their current needs.

The situation has shown that home office is not enough. In many cases, a combined system is becoming more effective. Dayoffice is a harbinger of a new trend," says Magdalena Sniezek.

Modern offices are following the demands of a changing world. Flexible and adapted working hours, as well as choice of location, is one of the main trends. Another is art, which brings vibrancy to interiors. The mural is a contemporary and very fashionable technique, but it is important to remember that its roots go back to antiquity, and its form has evolved throughout the centuries around the world. From cave wall paintings, to frescoes in religious buildings, through Mexico in the early 20th century and post-war Berlin. Today it is widespread around the world. It is most often seen on the street, but also in cultural institutions, hotels, fair and food halls or parking lots. Coraz częściej również w nowoczesnych biurach jako inspirujący element aranżacji wnętrza.
