Molecular. Interior design of a bar serving molecular cocktails

09 of December '21

A student of interior design from the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw {tag:studenci}, fascinated by molecular cuisine and bartending, designed the interiors of the"Molecular" cocktail bar . The author's main goal was to surprise and inspire visitors to the establishment by creating an interesting space.

Paulina Haras's bachelor's degree project was created in the Interior Design Studio under the guidance of instructors Katarzyna Anna Jagiełło, PhD, professor at the university, Aleksandra Przybyła and Tomasz Taciak.

The interior design was created for an establishment serving molecular cocktails. Molecular bartending is characterized by working with acids, liquids and gases that affect the state of matter (for example, liquid nitrogen). Various types of mechanical devices are also used in this field, as well as scientific equipment. Knowledge of ingredients and physical and chemical processes is also necessary," explains the author.

goal: to surprise visitors

Paulina Haras' main goal was to surprise and inspire visitors to the establishment. The interior of the bar is intended to activate the senses and engage guests in an unconventional way, while making them feel good and special. The owners of the bar focus on original atmosphere and unique solutions while also taking care of the quality of the menu and the comfort of guests.

The author wanted a visit to the establishment to become a kind of unforgettable adventure, which provides new experiences, visual and taste. In the interior, as the student says, you can see sophisticated materials, original forms, bold combinations and inspiration from chemistry and molecules.

All this makes it elegant, while at the same time carrying a good dose of energy, Paulina adds.

functional zones

The bar space has been divided into several functional zones: a lobby with a place to hang up jackets and coats (checkroom), a space separating the lobby and the customer service area (corridor), a bar and seating area, toilets and utility facilities.

The entrance was separated from the hall by a space that introduces the mood of the place. When designing the corridor, the author used simple and sharp shapes and lines, as well as structures made of concrete to create a distinct form, contrasting with the relaxing interior of the bar.

comfort and relaxation

The guest area has been designed so that everyone can find a place for themselves, depending on their needs and preferences. As a result, the space is diverse. There are seating areas at both large and small tables, as well as high tables where you can sit on bar chairs. For those looking for more privacy and quiet, there are large lodge-like couches away from the main, bustling room.

On the other hand, the proper planning of the tables and the distance between them ensures guests' comfort. In this space, the author also took care of the comfort of dining and cocktails. The paths of waiters were planned so that communication is efficient and no one disturbs each other.

Thecustomer service area is visually quieter than the entrance area, with round shapes and curves appearing. A stark contrast between the two spaces is also evident. Leaving the austere, bright part, visitors to the premises are transported to another, soothing place.

The use of glass in various forms is the student's inspiration for glass test tubes, which are an essential part of any chemistry lab. The metal elements are meant to add character to the interior, while the dark wood is meant to warm it up and make the space cozier.

contrasting colors and materials

The color scheme of the interior of the "Molecular" bar and the juxtaposition of materials is based on various shades of gray and black, which were broken with yellow.

The juxtaposition of black and yellow is a strong contrast, which gives the interior an original and unique character. The colors are meant to influence the mood and feelings of the visitor. Black calms emotions, while yellow adds positive energy and stimulates creativity, the author concludes.
