The speakers at the next meeting of the Masters of Architecture series organized by the Katowice branch of the Association of Polish Architects will be Takaharu and Yui Tezuka - founders of Japanese studio Tezuka Architects, authors, among others, of the award-winning Fuji Kindergarten project.
Voted the world's best kindergarten after winning the Best of All award from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development's fourth Compendium of Exemplary Educational Facilities in 2011,Fuji Kindergarten is distinguished by its oval roof terrace - an endless playground for outdoor play. Slides have been routed from the roof, which preschoolers can use to slide directly into classrooms. In the design, one can also see the architects' characteristic harmony between people and nature - existing trees were left on the plot, and openings were cut in the building, so that the trees literally grow inside the classrooms, and their trunks, protruding above the roof terrace, are an additional attraction for children to climb on them.
