Tomorrow's Wake Up Alarm Clock will ring a little later than usual, at 10 am! Sound sculptor Katarzyna Krakowiak will be the guest of Thursday morning conversations about the beginning of her career, her time as a student and her childhood as part of the Street Cloud project - a microtalk about urban culture by the anti-RAMA collective.
Katarzyna Krakowiak creates sculptures, performances, objects, compositions and sound installations in which she explores languages of architectural description. Her goal is to create acoustic environments that allow viewers to become part of the work and touch architecture at the level of sound. Exploring the boundaries of architecture, Krakowiak creates large-scale installations based on existing architectural structures. Currently, she is also engaged in formulating the concept of architecture in linguistic terms - as an indefinite verb and a space of becoming, revealing different facets depending on its function.
The artist has received numerous awards, including from St. John's College of Oxford University, the Minister of Science and Higher Education and the Minister of Culture and National Heritage of Poland and the American Trust for Mutual Education. In 2012, she received a special award for her solo exhibition "I¿by ściana drżały, swelling with hidden knowledge of great power" (curated by Michal Libera) in the Polish Pavilion at the 13th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice. Since 2019, she has led the Sound Action Space Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. In 2020, she realized the work "It Begins with One Word. Choose Your Own" at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona.
As part of Thursday's Wakes, the artist will talk about her career, her childhood, her time as a student and her professional dreams. According to the organizers, there will also be questions about what is more important: space or sound, why we don't talk about noise pollution in Poland and how to protect the soundscape of our cities.
The Wake Up broadcast will take place on April 29 at 10 a.m. on FACEBOOK and the YouTube channel:
