Work submitted for the competition
"Best Diploma Architecture".
The temporary urban structure is a response to the needs of residents of high-intensity urban centers and an experiment in the multifunctional use of space between existing residential buildings and green areas previously undeveloped. The proposal of vertical gardens (urban farms) makes it possible to increase biologically active areas in cities. The project is a proposal for adapting space in a flexible manner, with the possibility of modifying structures according to social needs.

The task of this work is to show architecture that changes, provides a temporary solution to the problem of developing unused areas and responds to the dynamics of change. Adaptation of the structure incorporates representative places in urban centers and in difficult environmental conditions, where traditional construction is not able to function, in urbanized and non-urbanized areas.

The concept is located on Kręta Street in Bialystok. It includes the development of the area with the solution of the floor, recreation areas, small architecture, multi-family residential buildings, objects of vertical gardens (urban farms), modular market facilities.

The ground floor of the residential facilities consists of a publicly accessible multifunctional open zone and winter gardens located at the vertical communication.
The second and third floors contain small apartments, integrated with greenery (each apartment has loggias with vegetable gardens). A main corridor with walls partially filled with vertical gardens runs through the residential building floor.

The technical storey contains installations: photovoltaic, ventilation, solar, as well as rainwater harvesting from roof slopes and recycling of gray water, used, among other things, in the plant irrigation system.
The structure of the city's farms and the space allocated to them have been adapted to the needs of local residents. The modules are open and closed crops (greenhouses). Work, meeting and tranquility modules were woven into them. The structural grid of the facilities allows plants to spread throughout the structure. The multi-level layout of the suspended pot structures becomes an acoustic barrier and air-purifying filter for the existing residential buildings and the spaces between the module assemblies; it creates an internal microclimate that promotes temperature and humidity regulation.

Arranged modules create interiors with exposure to sunlight, which promotes the use of squares depending on the season, day and user requirements. The creation of gardens can become a city and community initiative.
The concept involves fragmentation of spaces, including playgrounds. Existing recreation areas on the north side have been introduced linearly into the interior of the site as an extension of functions.

The paved surfaces were designed based on the analysis of communication between the developed areas, using pedestrian routes visible on satellite images and traffic assumptions between the opening points of the surrounding area, providing free movement referring to moving through undeveloped open space.

The intention of the concept is to emphasize the significant role of green spaces in the city and their impact on human life, quality and health, as well as to connect the individual with nature and include him in the circulation with the environment. It is important to present the needs of residents of urban centers and the integration of local communities, jointly deciding on the urban space in which we live.
