"Diagnosis" is a record of a psychotherapy session of the city. What kind of animal is the city? And what kind of mother would it be? How does the place we live in affect our subconscious? The city as a starting point for psychotherapy. The documentary created by Ewa Podgórska will be available tomorrow on the Ninateka website at 9pm. This will be the first free online screening of the film directed in 2018.
When you hear a question, answer it immediately. Without thinking. Remember, every answer is just as good and just as important.
With these words, the voice of a psychoanalyst introduces us in Ewa Podgorska's documentary. Fifteen Lodz residents landed on his couch: older and younger, richer and poorer, struggling with problems. At first they answer seemingly innocent questions about their relationship with the city. What kind of animal would the city be? And what kind of mother would it be? However, these abstract considerations gradually reveal the characters' fears and prepare them for difficult confessions. Past wrongs and unrealized desires are reflected in the shabby facades of tenements and dirty puddles.
The live broadcast will be available on the Ninateka website from 9:00 pm.
"Diagnosis" has been awarded at festivals including: Moscow International Documentary Film Festival DOKer, Cinergia European Cinema Forum, Man in Danger Media Festival.
The documentary was also presented to audiences at, among others, IDFA 2018, ZagrebDox, Sofia International Film Festival / Международен София Филм Фест, Ismailia International Film Festival, FRAMES OF REPRESENTATION, Millennium Docs Against Gravity, Singapore International Festival of Arts, Krakow Film Festival, Transatlantyk Festival, Ińskie Lato Filmowe, Festival Dwa Brzegi, Frontdoc, HumanDOC Festival.
