The simple, wooden blocks of the cottage and the adjacent farm building designed by architects from YONO architecture studio seem to be the quintessence of life in the spirit of slow life. Their shape, as the authors of the project emphasize, was most influenced by nature and context - the small wooden buildings will be located in Kashubia, among wild meadows, near the forest, on a gently rolling terrain with a natural slope towards the lake.
tradition and modernity
Investors were keen to develop the plot so as not to interfere too much with the picturesque landscape. Wanting to meet the client's expectations, the designers decided to base the summer house on pillars and locate the outbuilding with sauna deep inside the plot so as to hide it somewhat among the hilly terrain and tall grasses. The whole project was designed using frame technology. Referring to the traditional architecture of Kashubia, architects from YONO architecture studio introduced a gabled roof with a symmetrical angle of inclination and a consistent color scheme for the facade and roofing. Dark facade boards obtained through the Japanese wood-burning method (Shou Sugi Ban) contrast with the light finish of the window and door recesses and terrace.

Ola Kloc: What was the investors' priority?
Sebastian Marach: The investors, based on the office's previous designs, did not interfere with the aesthetics of the building itself, placing great trust in us. Their wish was to fit the building into the existing landscape and local architecture, with elements of modernity, of course. The development of the plot was to be designed in such a way as to preserve the overgrown meadows or natural hills. In this way, the investors wanted a respite from everyday city life.
Ola: What was the biggest challenge, and what are you most satisfied with?
Sebastian: The biggest challenge turned out to be reconciling the location of the building, the naturally occurring slopes on the plot and the distances set by the local zoning plan. The aforementioned design elements and the clean, simple, functional body make us start thinking about our needs in a rational way. Getting closer to nature, thanks to the glazing facing the forest and the lake have become screens filled with nature. There was also a place to spend time with family or friends, almost at the edge of the forest.
Ola: What was the main inspiration for the project?
Sebastian: The project was mainly inspired by nature and the context in the form of local architecture.
