Center for Eco-Innovation of Gdansk University of Technology from FORT

05 of December '24

The Gdansk University of Technology campus has expanded with a new building. The Eco-Innovation Center, designed by the FORT studio from Gdansk, will house technologies related to environmental protection and reducing the negative impact of human activity on the climate.

The Eco-Innovation Center, which was built on the campus of Gdansk University of Technology on Siedlicka Street in Wrzeszcz, will be used by scientists, researchers and students. The facility-nearly 13,000 square meters in size-has 18 research and computer laboratories, 20 teaching rooms, an auditorium, and a rest area for students.

FORT studio design

The building of the Eco-Innovation Center was designed by the FORT architectural studio, and the main designer is Prof. Antoni Taraszkiewicz, dean of the PG Faculty of Architecture in 2008-2016. The project was selected in a competition held in 2015.

We wanted the architecture to bridge the gap between the campus architecture designed in the early 20th century by architect Albert Carsten and the architecture being built here today. It's architecture that is very contemporary in its expression, but uses fairly traditional elements. The technological side of the building is very much oriented towards ecological solutions - drawing renewable energy, rational management of rainwater, heat recovery. It will be an intelligent, pro-environmental building," explained Prof. Antoni Taraszkiewicz after the competition was decided.

"Green" solutions at the Eco-Innovation Center

- The building itself uses a number of pro-environmental technologies and solutions, thanks to which its use will be environmentally friendly, PG Chancellor Mariusz Miler said today .

The center is equipped with photovoltaic cells, a green roof and heat pumps. The facility has gray water recovery systems. Smart control systems for the installations have also been installed.

- At the heart of the Eco-Innovation Center are laboratories where scientists will be able to design and develop green technologies in the broadest sense, explains Prof. Piotr Jaskuła, associate dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering. - The specialized equipment they have been equipped with will allow research to be carried out in response to today's most pressing climate and environmental problems, such as reducing the effects of floods and droughts, reducing CO2 emissions, removing pollutants from water or recovering energy.
