A Wroclaw apartment with roof access and a private Zen garden was created from the merger of two apartments. The project by KANDO ARCHITECTS studio is a combination of restrained forms and natural materials, creating a minimalist and luxurious interior.

The 185-square-meterWroclaw penthouse was created by combining two apartments on the top floor of a new apartment building. The decision to buy was made before the building was erected, so far-reaching changes to the original construction project were possible. Moving fragments of load-bearing walls made it possible to create a convenient functional layout, in turn, making an opening in the ceiling - introducing stairs leading to the roof.

By consulting the load-bearing capacity of the walls and ceilings with constructors, we were able to place a granite boulder used as a coffee table in the living room without any worries, hang visually light but physically heavy steel shelves on the wall withcleverly hidden fixtures, and enrich the interior staircase with stone steps and a miniature Zen garden of white marble pebbles," says Kinga Klietz-Lęska of KANDO ARCHITECTS.

A centrally located staircase block with an elevator divides the apartment into two parts. To the right of the entrance is a spacious living room with a balcony, followed by a kitchen with a dining room and a study. To the left begins a corridor with entrances to the gym, the master bedroom with dressing room, bathroom and sauna, and to the second bathroom and guest bedroom.

In the middle of the living room stood an unusual coffee table - a granite boulder sanded from the top and bottom, and rough-hewn on the sides. In the evenings, sitting on the spacious sofa, one can watch movies, projected on a projection screen extending from the ceiling. It is worth noting, the palette of materials and colors defining the character of the entire apartment. Grays, browns and blacks have been introduced here in the form of anthracite quartz sintering, beige-gray terrazzo, brown emperador mocca marble, black brushed steel and parquet and veneer of exotic wenge wood.

Monolithic kitchen combined with dining room

In the background of the living room is a staircase leading to the roof. A glass skylight lets in the sunlight here during the day, while atmospheric and practical lighting after dark is provided by discreet lamps. To make the steps suitably lightweight, the designers used a steel structure with quartz sinter overlays. Through an openwork screen at the staircase platform, one can look into the spacious interior connecting the kitchen and dining room. The anthracite monolithic cabinetry conceals the black appliances. This minimalist backdrop is enhanced by designer accessories - a stone table, upholstered chairs, spherical lamps, hookers and a comfortable armchair. A veneered wall with a hidden door separates the dining room from the intimate study.

The minimalist bedroom is the most important room of the private area. The bed faces a large-format glass window, and inductive phone chargers are hidden in the mattress platform. The master bedroom connects to an open dressing room, and through it to a private spa and bathroom. The discreet shapes of the ceramics and fixtures help focus attention on the contrast of the irregular terazzo drawing with the rhythmic wall divisions. The rhythm of the fins of the dark tan wood cladding goes to the glazing of the modern sauna.
