On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the rebirth of local governments in Poland, Gazeta Wyborcza organized a poll for Supermunicipalities. Residents of a given city could vote for, in their opinion, the most important positive change brought about by local government activity. Voting lasted until April 30. What are the residents of Toruń, Zielona Góra, Częstochowa and Kielce most proud of?
Toruń
First place for Toruń went to the fact that the Old Town Complex was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It was voted for by 374 people. Second place went to the opening of the Gen. Elżbieta Zawacka Bridge, while third place went to the Bella Skyway Festival.
Green Mountain
Residents of Zielona Gora are most proud of the electric buses traversing the city. MZK won 27% of the votes. The University of Zielona Gora managed to garner slightly less, 25%. Third place went to Greater Zielona Gora, a city combined with a municipality.
Częstochowa
The most important event for the residents of Częstochowa was the renovation of Blessed Virgin Mary Avenue and Biegański Square. In second place was the construction of a new streetcar line and the purchase of Twist streetcars. Third place went to the organization of World Youth Day in 1991.
Kielce
The establishment and operation of the Kielce Trade Fair was chosen as the most important event of the last 30 years. As many as 1,070 people voted for it. In second place was Vive Kielce's win in the Champions League, and in third place was the Świętokrzyskie Oncology Center.
