PKP S.A. has announced that the modernization of another railroad station will begin later this year. This time the historic station in Sochaczew, which was built in 1902, will be refreshed and modernized. The investor argues that the station building will retain its architectural qualities, while gaining many environmentally friendly and progressive solutions.

The historic railway station in Sochaczew will undergo modernization as part of the Station Investment Program for 2016-2023. The building, erected at the beginning of the 20th century, will not only undergo renovation, but will also be adapted to modern traveler service standards. Representatives of PKP S.A., the investor, argue that the architectural qualities of the historic building will be preserved. It is worth mentioning that the railroad station in Sochaczew has a rich history - including surviving two wars, and was built in 1902 based on a design by architect Czeslaw Domaniewski. What specifically will change as a result of the modernization work?

In turn, a little closer to Henryka Sienkiewicza Street, two island platforms for buses, a cab rank and nine parking spaces will be created, including two for electric cars. A bicycle shelter will also appear adjacent to the building. The historic locomotive will remain in its current place. Of the other works planned in the surroundings of the station, it is worth mentioning the arrangement of greenery, as well as the installation of new elements of small architecture (benches, garbage cans, lighting).

modern and functional interior

Changes will also appear inside the building. A lobby serving as a waiting room will be created on the first floor. Thanks to the investment, it will gain completely new equipment, i.e. benches, display cases with train timetables, electronic boards of train arrivals and departures and a new voice information system. Adjacent to the lobby, in addition to a ticket office and restrooms, space is planned for a future restaurant and office space for one of the railroad companies.

After the modernization, the station is also expected to become more friendly to people with limited mobility. Architectural barriers will be eliminated and a number of improvements will be introduced, including guided paths, tactile plans of the station, Braille signs and toilets adapted to the needs of people with disabilities.

ecology and safety

Station modernization projects under the 2016-2023 Railway Station Investment Program introduce a lot of pro-environmental solutions and emphasize safety. In the case of the railroad station in Sochaczew, it is planned to insulate the roof of the building from the inside, as well as to use window and door woodwork with a low degree of thermal transmittance, which will have a beneficial effect on reducing heat loss. In addition, energy-efficient lighting will be used throughout the complex. In order to optimize water, electricity and heat consumption, a BMS (Building Management System) will be installed to manage all installations and equipment at the station. In turn, through the installation of modern security systems - monitoring, access control, burglary and assault alarm and fire alarm - the safety of people and the building itself will be increased.

The 2016-2023 Railway Station Investment Program is one of the projects envisaged for implementation as part of the "Strategy for Responsible Development until 2020 (with an outlook to 2030)." Thanks to it, 189 railway station investments will be carried out for a total of PLN 1.6 billion. As a result of the measures taken at the stations, the level of passenger service will be improved and there will be integration of railroads with other modes of transport.
