A city sports square will be created next to the Warsaw Arsenal building. The implementation of the project prepared by the JAKABE studio is the result of a project submitted to the civic budget. This is the third investment of this type in the capital.
The new recreational square will be built on a currently undeveloped area in the vicinity of the entrance to the Ratusz-Arsenal subway station. City authorities hope that this type of profiled public space will help increase interest in physical activity among residents in the city center. This is also the implementation of a project selected by the residents themselves in the previous edition of the civic budget. Construction work is scheduled to begin in October and be completed in the third quarter of 2022. Urban sports squares are already in operation at the Copernicus Science Center and Świętokrzyska subway stations.
sports for everyone

The square's space is designed to meet the needs of different groups of users, providing a diverse range and types of space, usually unavailable in popular outdoor gyms or street workout parks. For the comfort of all users, walking paths and those for active recreation will be separated. This will allow everyone to safely use the space of the new square according to their own needs. Those seeking respite among the greenery will be able to use the new walking paths. Their surface will allow water to permeate thanks to a mineral-resin structure. Meanwhile, an alley with a paved surface with exercise walls will allow for sports such as rollerblading, skateboarding and scooter riding. Closer to Krasinski Garden there will be a set of calisthenics equipment.
calming and relaxation

The square will also feature a lot of small architecture - pergolas, new benches, deck chairs, trash garbage cans and bicycle racks. Picnic tables will be available on the side of the Royal Arsenal. Wooden terraces in the central area will also allow for comfortable relaxation. The new space will be soundproofed. An embankment has been designed on the side of Andersa Street, where urban gardeners will plant shrubs and trees. Thanks to this, residents spending time in the square will rest from the noise of the street, and sports activities will not be heard outside the square.
