Karolina Uplawa, a student at the Faculty of Architecture, and Dr. Michal Stangel of the Silesian University of Technology were awarded first place in an architectural competition organized by the Municipality of Wladyslawowo. The competition task was to develop the so-called Szperk on the Puck Bay.
The competition jury expected solutions of high artistic value, with a sense of scale and integrity of individual elements of the development of the area, forming a spatial-architectural whole. The submitted proposals should be designs for a public space that concentrates the most important utility functions for residents and tourists. The space had to be distinguished by a combination of seasonal and post-seasonal functionality while preserving the most valuable natural and landscape values. The winning concepts will be used to update the current development plan.

A new version of Szperk in Chałupy
Among the nineteen works submitted, the jury decided to award the first place to the project of the duo Karolina Uplawa and Michal Stangel. As we read in the justification:
The work harmoniously combines certain elements to which we have been accustomed as users of the area such as the view of the Puck Bay and undeveloped space possible to use whether for sports or cultural events. In addition, it assumes the introduction of the function of catering services to serve tourist traffic and accompany the organization of cultural and sports events. Catering services have been located in a way that does not disturb the existing functioning of the area. A parking lot built into the body of the building has been presented in an interesting way. Access to the parking lot is provided from the side of Sztormowa Street, while on the side of the square a ramp for the disabled was located, which was led over the bicycle path and the promenade through the viewing tower, harmoniously connecting with the flood embankment used as a boulevard.

local center
The authors designed a multifunctional low-rise local center for tourists, surfers and residents of Chalup. The building consists of four glazed buildings made of wood. The first, forming the eastern frontage, is erected on pillars and has a floor area of 394 square meters. A large observation deck allows visitors to observe the bay. The interior of the building houses a multifunctional social activity center with a children's day care center and coworking spaces, as well as an open parking area in the ground floor. The next two buildings, with areas of 281 and 104 square meters, respectively, are commercial units that form the western frontage. The fourth building is a free-standing pavilion, measuring 101 square meters, with restrooms and showers. The final element towering over the site is an openwork observation tower overgrown with vegetation.

The authors left the rest of the area as green open space. They supplemented it with new plantings, a rain garden, small architecture and a play area for children. On the northern part, they paved the area with goekrat, which allows for the construction of a stage and the entry of trucks. Access to the bay is free, and wooden seating invites people to relax on the embankment. The designers also planned for the possibility of phasing the development, for example, above the service units they allow the construction of additional floors with guest rooms for rent.
The second prize was awarded by the jury to Jakub Kubicki, Matilda Grzywacz and Karolina Stawoska. The third prize went to Bianca Piechotta, Wojciech Wisniewski and Michal Rzepka. Congratulations!
