Kamil Owczarek and Aleksandra Wróbel talk about studying architecture at TU Delft, a project on the island of Sint Maarten, working on international competitions and internships in architectural offices. Hear about how to design buildings that are resistant to climate crises, the differences between Polish and foreign ways of teaching, and the importance of a good design team.
Kamil Owczarek
Studied at the Faculty of Architecture, Cracow University of Technology, where he defended his engineering thesis under the direction of Dr. Patrycja Haupt. Winner of numerous architectural competitions, participant of workshops. As part of the Erasmus+ program, he studied at TU Delft, where he met Aleksandra Wróbel and Agnieszka Witaszek - with whom he is the author of the project entitled "Folding Emergency Shelter". The concept was awarded first place in the international Kaira Looro competition. A participant in the Sint Maarten project. He is currently working in the Wroclaw office of Vivid Vision and is preparing to go on an internship to Kengo Kuma's Japanese office.
Aleksandra Wróbel
Aleksandra graduated with a degree in engineering from the Cracow University of Technology, where she defended her diploma with Prof. Anna Franta in 2018. During her studies, she held a six-month scholarship at Delft University of Technology. She expanded her knowledge by participating in Polish and international workshops: since 2015 she has been involved in the European Association of Architecture Students.
As of September 2019, she is a master's student at the Faculty of Architecture at Delft University of Technology. She gained professional experience during an internship in Savigliano, northern Italy, where she worked on the reconstruction of traditional alpine buildings, and at the GXN Innovations office in Copenhagen, where she worked on a sustainable masterplan project for the southern part of Amsterdam. She is involved in a research project on Sint Maarten, where she is addressing the issue of traditional Caribbean architecture that manifests environmental changes caused by garbage. She wishes to develop this topic in her master's thesis and future career as an architect.
