eco library
The library is one of the most important municipal institutions with a wide range of social activities (research, educational, cultural and recreational). Over time it has undergone a major transformation from a place of collecting written collections to the function of a vibrant cultural center. The theme of the competition was to create an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly facility. An important task was to complement the basic function of the reading room, with cultural offerings, rooms for various activities, and the design of the outdoor area.
MAIN PRIZE
1st place
© Ewelina Dzienyńska
The competition jury decided to award first place to Ewelina Dzienyńska, whose project stands out for its simple cube form and minimalism. The student limited the development of the plot, leaving a large space for greenery, and realized the functional program on several levels, placing the multipurpose room in the center of the block, while the library occupies the top floors. The concept also refers, through characteristic modules, to the architecture of the so-called "metabolists" and draws on contemporary CLT wood construction technology.
2nd prize
© Sylwia Pajor
Second place went to Sylwia Pajor, proposing a recreational building withdrawn into the plot, which from the forest side takes the form of a green hill. Thanks to this treatment, it blends with the landscape, and the possibility to climb to the roof creates an additional attractive public space and becomes a vantage point for the entire campus development.
Third prize
© Szymon Albrycht
The jury awardedthird place to Szymon Albrycht, who located his building in the corner of the plot, in the most urban part. Thanks to the expressive procedure of overhanging the form, the object became a gateway to a natural, green space. The openwork, wooden, spatial facade of the building intrigues with its shape and invites one to enter the building.
honors
Three honorable mentions were also awarded in the competition. The first honorable mention went to Nadia Budzowska, referring to the idea of a pavilion. The designed object was hidden in a thicket of trees. Its facade is a sculptural structure resembling bone tissue. The facade opens the interior to the forest landscape and creates an intimate, attractive space for the reader.
