A dark color on the facade of a single-family house is not an obvious choice. Most often, the masses of residential buildings are kept in a light, natural color scheme, which is supposed to be a harbinger of an equally cozy interior. This is different in the case of REFORM Architekt 's latest project - RE: DARK HOUSE, whose front, minimalist facade is supposed to emphasize the inaccessibility of the block from the outside, while inside it gives a sense of openness and security to its residents.
uneven terrain
The plot on which the house will be located is 3,000 sqm, and the block itself is 320 sqm. The single-family house, due to the uneven terrain, has been planned at different heights, which the architect assures, however, should not be noticeable to the householders.

Before designing, he always wants to see the area where the house is to stand - this definitely makes the first steps easier when creating the project. In this case, the terrain is slightly uneven and sloping and heavily wooded. I didn't want the house to look like it was hammered into the terrain. Despite the simple, even straightforward plan, I decided to "splash" the elevation a bit and set it in motion. In practice, this means that once it extends 1.5 meters forward, at other times backward. Everything was to avoid cutting down trees, which are an indispensable part of the landscape around the house. I achieved the aforementioned moving structure of the building through numerous displacements," says Marcin Tomaszewski of REFORM Architekt.
A dark façade in a modern house
Although at first glance it appears black or dark gray - Dark House, or Dark House in reality is maintained in shades of dark brown and natural gray. According to the designer's concept, depending on the time of day and year, the lump like a chameleon is supposed to blend in with the changing environment.

Only one material will be used on the dark facade - plaster in a color created by the architect especially for this project - Grigio Naturale RF, which will look different depending on the plane of the wall, creating a texture - a scratch effect vertically, horizontally and diagonally. This effect will also allow the building to hide, for example, the garage door or other elements on the facade.
The house from the outside will give the impression of being inaccessible, only at the back will windows be placed

The house from the outside is to give the impression of being inaccessible, only at its back will windows be placed, thus giving the necessary privacy and sense of security to its occupants. Inside, the building has been designed in a simple way with a division into three zones - an open living area, a night area housing bedrooms and bathrooms, and a technical area with a garage and other utility rooms.
