Cemex Poland has once again awarded the best theses centered around the theme of innovative technological and product solutions in the cement, concrete and aggregate industry.
The competition "Create a green future with Cemex" was organized for the third time. The idea of the undertaking is part of the company's global strategy - "Future in Action", which aims to reduceCO2 emissions at Cemex plants by at least 55% by 2030.
The final of the third edition of the competition took place on June 18 at the headquarters of Cemex Poland in Warsaw. Among the ten finalists selected for the second stage, the jury and chapter of the competition selected three winners.
The winning entries stood out for their exceptional creativity and the potential to use the research contained in them to bring about positive changes in the construction market.
The current edition of the competition was aimed at graduates and students of technical universities who defended their theses between September 2022 and March 2024.
As in previous years, this year's edition of the competition was also very popular. The organizer received submissions from more than 30 graduate students from 17 universities across Poland.
The submitted works included a broader view of sustainable development issues in the construction industry, including: closed-loop economy in construction, optimization and improvement of the efficiency of production processes and products, as well as the use of innovative material solutions to reduce the use of natural resources.
The Jury and the Competition Jury recognized as the best the work submitted by Olimpia Siemiątkowska from the AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow, entitled "The study of the impact of ground carbonate. "Studies of the effect of ground calcium carbonate on the properties of multicomponent cements containing ground granulated blast furnace slag." The promoter of the winning thesis is Łukasz Kotwica, PhD.
The second place went to the work entitled. "Study of the effect of aggregate from autoclaved cellular concrete on perlite concrete" submitted by Nicole Kocierz from the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice. The paper was written under the substantive supervision of Dr. Barbara Slomka-Słupik, Eng.
The winner of the third place was Martyna Gos from the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, author of the paper titled. "Influence of admixtures that accelerate setting on hydration and properties of Portland multicomponent cements." The promoter of her thesis submitted for the competition is Dr. Ewa Kapeluszna, Eng.
In addition to the selected winners, special prizes were also awarded. The competition jury appreciated the ingenuity and research approach presented in the work by Joanna Szechynska from the Cracow University of Technology, Krakow, entitled "The influence of plant-derived bioadditives. "Effect of plant-derived bioadditives on selected properties of low-emission alkali-activated binders. " The second honorable mention went to Dominika Świszcz of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow, author of the paper "Influence of inorganic anions on the structure of alkali-activated binders."
The winners of the first three places received financial awards of PLN 7, 5 and 3 thousand, respectively. Cash prizes were also provided for the thesis promoters.
