The hybrid solution, based on a cascade of condensing boilers and a heat pump, heats and cools an area of as much as 11,000 m².
The Complex of Wood and Forestry Schools in Garbatka-Letnisko is not only a place that has been educating professionals in the wood and forestry industry for more than 80 years. The new school building is also an architectural gem.
The boiler room of this state-of-the-art facility is equipped with Buderus brand equipment.
This place located in the Kozienicka Forest already requires an ecological heating system by virtue of its location. A hybrid source of heating and cooling based on a cascade of two 400 kW Logano plus KB472 gas condensing boilers and a Logatherm WPS 80.2 HT ground source heat pump has been installed in the 11,000 m² complex (school and dormitory).

This is an unusually large implementation and design challenge. The need reported by the investor is not only to heat and prepare hot water for 280 students, including 150 living in a boarding school, but also to cool the facility. A suitable control design to optimize these processes was crucial for the system's economic operation.
The heat pump feeds the underfloor heating circuits, which act as surface cooling in the summer. The Logatherm WPS 80.2 HT is a device that is characterized by very high efficiency. It draws energy from the ground through 15 boreholes, each 100 meters long. The heat pump is retrofitted with a passive cooling station.
Boilers supply circuits with higher operating temperatures and act as a peak source for the heat pump. Hot water is prepared by the boilers in a hot water storage tank fed in layers by a Buderus SLP fresh water exchanger station. The gas boiler room with the hot water storage tank is located on the top floor of the building, while the heat pump is located on the ground level.

The heat pump automation controls cooling and underfloor heating, and signals a request for possible boiler support. Buderus 5313 automation manages the operation of the boiler room, heating circuits and hot water production. It also allows remote control of the operation of devices.
The installed photovoltaics support the work of the heat pump.
According to the investor, the system is reliable, easy to manage and use. It is not only an ecological solution, but also economical and functional.
