Arek Stokłosa, a graduate of the Faculty of Industrial Forms at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, together with the startup Estimote, have created a series of devices to help fight the coronavirus.
The SARS-CoV-2 virus pandemic has challenged us to revise almost all mechanisms of functioning in society. First of all, we were forced to revise our hygiene habits, submitting to the prevailing strictures. In addition to systematic hand disinfection, physical distance is recommended. The distance between people that has been deemed critical for transmission of the virus has been set at 1.5 meters. Below this value, the likelihood of infection increases significantly. While in public spaces observing proper distances is relatively easy, inside buildings this requirement becomes problematic.

A helpful tracing system
While it's best to stay at home, unfortunately not everyone can work remotely. In confined indoor spaces, where the density of occupants is significant, tracing solutions, i.e. tracking where the likelihood of infection is greatest, can prove useful. Such devices are offered by the Cracow-based startup Estimote. The company specializes in microlocation technologies using beacons, which are capable of measuring the position of a person or object with critical precision at infestation up to several tens of centimeters (and in UWB technology up to a few centimeters). This type of solution Estimote has been introducing successively for a few years, being a contractor for brands such as Amazon, Apple, and Nike.
Panic button
A panic button - a special type of beacon - has been implemented in the United States for two years. Such devices are security buttons that hotel employees carry with them to report an incident to security in case of an emergency. A network of beacon-lighthouses, deployed in a building, is able to precisely locate the beacon, giving the floor and room number to the services. This significantly speeds up the activation of an emergency action.
One of the proposed beacons comes in the form of a key fob
