The area around Amelung Pond today is one of the most frequented in Chorzow. It is hard to believe that it was once a heavily polluted area, which had to do with coal mining.
Over time, the area became increasingly inaccessible and dangerous, surrounded by industrial facilities. Changes came with 2002, and in 2007 there was a ceremonial handover of the park to city residents. Today the area is extremely green, and the pond has become a recreational center. Not surprisingly, the area around it is constantly developing and opening up to Chorzow residents.
Amelung Apartments is a complex of two multi-family buildings with five floors above ground, along with underground garages. Together they contain eighty-five apartments, whose square meters oscillate between 42 m² and 120 m². A significant number of them are corner apartments. The buildings have been set on an elevated site, surrounded by greenery and Amelung Pond. Exterior ribbing serves the function of shading the widely lit interiors, while making the facade of the buildings more attractive.

One of the main goals of the architects from {tag:Studio} was to open the apartments to the surrounding vegetation, hence the idea to create spacious viewing terraces on all sides of both buildings. Large windows lead to them, so that while staying in the apartment one can have the impression of close contact with nature. The buildings have been designed in a resident-friendly manner, especially with young families with children in mind.
