We invite you to participate in a design workshop organized by the Warsaw Branch of the Association of Polish Architects, as part of the Praga Lab activities. The aim of the project is to develop an original program for the adaptation of a bakery building located in Warsaw's Praga district.
The subject of the workshop is the Bakery, a historic complex of buildings located at ul: Stolarska, Letnia and Szwedzka in Warsaw. The premise consists of a post-production building of a former bakery and an associated building with a residential function. The aim of the project is to develop models for a new way of functioning and bring the abandoned building back to life while preserving its identity.
We are looking for solutions that present the tangible and intangible heritage of Prague in an innovative way, that will identify methods and tools between different partners, officials, entrepreneurs, NGOs, all those who want to develop Prague, but not lose its value. The solutions must ensure that the new functions are able to sustain themselves, but within the principles of social economy, that is, ventures in which the social dimension dominates over profit maximization. We are also keen to ensure that the models developed by the project teams strengthen cooperation between entities already operating in Praga and more broadly in Warsaw, and are in line with circular economy principles. - explains Katarzyna Sadowy, a member of Praga Lab and chairwoman of the workshop jury.
The solutions proposed by participants should include:
- identification of the Bakery's tangible and intangible heritage values,
- identification of a functional program that will strengthen the local potential of Praga in social and economic terms,
- proposals for architectural solutions and models for investment and subsequent management of the Bakery.
The models to be developed should combine current and contemporary work-related activities (especially creative, manufacturing, repair and artistic) with the traditions and heritage of Prague. The organizer is waiting for submissions until December 8, 2019.
On the basis of the submitted applications, the jury will select interdisciplinary teams, which, under the guidance of an advisory team, will work on projects for several months (to be completed by March 30, 2020). The teams will be paid for their work.
The workshop is organized by the Warsaw Branch of SARP as part of the activities of Praga Lab - part of the OpenHeritage project.
More information, including workshop regulations and an application form, is available on the Praga Lab website.
