In addition to the award for the design of the creative-coworking space, TTA STUDIO also received a statuette for the interior design of the Aula Italian restaurant in Wroclaw. The original purpose of the building of today's Aula was once quite different.
Both of the studio's projects are connected by more than just the award. The restaurant is one of the "residents" of Under Pressure, part of the former railroad hospital building. A space that is also challenging, specific, where you can still see traces of evidence of its former purpose. None of this stopped the architects. Rather, it can be said that it stimulated their imagination all the more strongly. The design concept was simple in conception, but the end result surprises and delights.
Basia Hyjek: Where did you get the idea to combine two such contrasting colors?
TTA STUDIO: Flooding the existing lecture hall, rich in details and textures with many PRL alterations, additions and transformations, with color (and literally paint) was actually the only logical way to clean up and organize this space with the minimal budget of the Investor. At the same time, this procedure, made it possible to highlight the history that this huge room has gone through and the function it served. All the activities, including those unfinished, were directly preserved. In contrast to this, however, there had to be a new function, which needed an appropriate background and distinction.
Basia: What was your goal? How were guests of the restaurant to feel inside?
TTA: We treated the upper part of the Auditorium with a deep and dark color in the main in order to give this tall, over 7-meter-high overhead space a cozy feel. Such a dark and intense color also lends a kind of elegance, making it easier to tame and feel more comfortable there. The green color also has a relaxing and calming effect, it is a naturally occurring color in nature, so it goes perfectly with food. The white lower part is a color that was intended to create a feeling of cleanliness and neutralize the background for the food being served so as not to compete with it in any way.
Basia: What was the original purpose of the place and where did you get the idea to expose its distinctive elements?
TTA: Originally the place was a lecture hall used by the hospital for its own purposes. The original sound equipment in the form of a console with all the equipment still remains there. The auditorium impressed us from the beginning with its grandeur, we wanted to preserve its character, we just needed to "clean up" there visually.
