From the series "Material in architecture - trends 2024"

Brick, one of the oldest building materials, plays an extremely important role in architecture. Its simplicity and charm make it popular in different latitudes. However, the use of traditional brick requires appropriate construction and, as a result, a longer construction time. A commercially available alternative is brick-like tile. Concrete decors perfectly reflect the appearance of brick, while providing lower weight and maintaining the necessary technical parameters.

Advantages of brick-like tiles

Unlike traditional brick, installation of Ecopiedra products does not require a foundation, reinforcement of lintels, anchoring of the outer layer or the use of ventilation ducts. The Spanish brand's products are easy to install and do not require specialized tools, which affects the completion date. Ecopiedra cladding is non-combustible (class A1) and has low water absorption (less than 6%), making it resistant to rainwater and environmental stains.

Ecopiedra has launched a complete ECO SYSTEM façade system, including all necessary components:

  • bonding primer,
  • adhesive for thermal insulation, mesh and cladding,
  • facade wool,
  • reinforced layer,
  • mechanical fastener,
  • concrete cladding,
  • joint mortar,
  • impregnant.

The solution has a National Technical Assessment and tests for fire spread (NRO) and falling off under fire (no falling off during a 120-minute fire). In terms of documentation, ECO SYSTEM is ready for use in residential and commercial developments.

All collections are made of concrete, so the cladding can be used both indoors and on building facades. Ecopiedra products have dedicated corners, which has a positive effect on installation time and surface consistency. The ecological aspect is also extremely important. Only natural dyes based on metal oxides and carbon black are used in the production process. All production waste is recycled, and the tiles are dried in special chambers equipped with a heat recovery system.

Brick on the facade

Brick-like tiles are perfect for modern construction. Simple solids and sharp edges blend wonderfully with linear brick layouts. The maroon color scheme of Rustico Regular in the shade of Granate, combined with white grout, creates a contrasting composition that catches the eye. The juxtaposition of a short tile (Tizon) and a long tile (Soga) allows to achieve the effect of a traditional building brick.

A softer version of the brick are models in light colors. They add lightness to the facade, visually softening the sharpness of the structure. Macizo Profundo is a sister product to Rustico Regular. The products have identical faces and color palette, differing only in tile thickness. Depending on the nature of the project, a thinner (Rustico - up to 2.2 cm) or thicker (Macizo - up to 4.5 cm) brick-like tile can be used.

Rustico Regular and Macizo Profundo models can also be mixed with each other, combining the tiles in a variety of ties, visually taking advantage of the differences in the height of the two products.

Modern facade with Moderno

Moderno is a new collection from the Ecopiedra range, being implemented for sale in 2024. The model combines the Roman brick format with a modern twist. An additional advantage of the collection is the dedicated decors, equipped with long, parallel grooves. In the case of Ecopiedra brick-like tiles, the investor himself decides on the format of the bricks purchased. The order can be placed only for short or long bricks - or, in the case of Moderno, smooth bricks and decors. The architect can freely select products for the project, depending on the design concept.

Brick-like tiles in the living room and dining room

Brick in areas such as the lounge or dining room often plays a decorative role, blending in with the rest of the design elements. Inspired by Roman bricks, Antiguo Largo impresses with its narrow format and rounded edges, which add to the tile's historic character. In addition to aesthetic considerations, the functional aspect is also important. Ecopiedra cladding does not require refreshing and repainting. If there is a need to change the arrangement, the concrete tiles can be covered with color impregnation or facade paint, changing the appearance of the facade or room.

Due to its classic nature, Ecopiedra brick-like tiles combine perfectly with various interior styles and materials. Brick finds itself wonderfully in modernist arrangements, as well as rustic juxtapositions and even glamour compositions. The non-uniform coloring of the tiles gives the surface a natural finish.

Brick in the kitchen - is there anything to fear?

When it comes to decorative tiles, there is often a concern about whether this is a product that can be used in so-called wet areas like the kitchen or bathroom. Concrete is a low-absorption material, resistant to water, moisture and frost. If the cladding is used in an area where the surface is exposed to water and dirt, impregnation of the entire surface is recommended. In addition, regular maintenance and proper care are key to keeping concrete tiles in great condition.

Ecopiedra concrete tiles can be used in the kitchen as an alternative to ceramic or glass panels. The decors give the vertical surface an irregularity that makes it stand out from its surroundings. Brick-like tiles provide architects with ample room for creativity and experimentation. From classic brick patterns to modern arrangements, from preserving the traditional character of a building to introducing innovative accents that define contemporary trends in architecture.

Brick-like tiles represent an evolution in the materials used to cover facades and interior walls. These pieces not only have the authentic look of brick, but also provide greater design flexibility through a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. Their lighter construction and ease of installation compared to traditional brick contribute to a more efficient construction process.
