Wine Site is a project by a student team from Poznan University of Technology, consisting of: Patrycja Skawicka, Piotr Skorupinski, Weronika Wodras, Wiktoria Zalewska, which takes us to Perugia, Italy, where the Tili Vini winery is located at the foot of the Central Apennines. Its owners, together with the Buildner platform, organized a competition for the design of guest houses, and the proposal from Poland caught the attention of the jury, which awarded it an honorable mention!
The main objective of The Tili Wine Italy Guests Homes international competition was to design five guest houses, located on the grounds of an Italian vineyard. The set functional program of the competition defined the scope of the development—each guest house should be about 70 square meters, have a lounge area, living room, bedroom and bathroom, as well as a small kitchenette and luggage storage.

Tili Vini produces a range of high-quality organic wines using sustainable methods, without chemicals and focusing on new technologies that reduce the amount of carbon dioxide produced. For these reasons, the projects submitted for the competition sought eco-friendly, feasible ideas for developing the winery's unique site.
The jury was looking for a concept that combines the heritage and business philosophy of the owners—a love of winemaking and living in harmony with nature. Currently, there are several empty buildings on the development site. Due to their poor state of repair, participants were able to propose partial or complete demolition.

The competition was won by the Courtyard project from Turkey by the team: Adil Yirmibeş, Ozan Yalçın. The jury also awarded two grand prizes, the Buildner Student Award + and the Buildner Sustainability Award, and six honorable mentions. Among the honorable mentions was the work of the Wine Site team from Poznan University of Technology, consisting of: Patrycja Skawicka, Piotr Skorupinski, Weronika Wodras, Wiktoria Zalewska.
Also on the short list for the competition was a second project from Poznan University of Technology by Justyna Mejsner, Bartosz Mrozowski and Michelle Piasek, which you will read about soon in a separate article.

modular guest houses
The award-winning project called Wine Site was placed by the authors in the Tilli Vini vineyard located near Assisi. The proposed guest houses relate to existing buildings with their shape, sloping roofs and use of local materials. The houses, in the form of mirror-image modules, form a semi-open patio on the developed site, which is filled with a green gazebo and a small swimming pool.

Each building includes openwork walls and a skylight with a garden, which fill the spaces with natural light that reflects in the smooth surfaces made of micro-cement and creates a play of light and shadow.
An emphasis on simplicity and an ode to local Italian culture were the main goals of our project, the young architects say.

At the winery, the designers also proposed a wine tasting zone, placing it in an old building located on the plot.

The restrained aesthetics, natural color palette and subdued lighting, set the stage for lively conversations over a glass of wine, the students add.
With view openings between modules, guests can enjoy the magnificent landscape of the Central Apennine range, which seems to encroach on the winery's grounds.

haromony with nature
The guest cottages were designed in lightweight, wooden construction and topped with a sloping roof with extensive vegetation, The facades, interiors and floors are covered with micro-cement. The students also proposed a rainwater collection and filtration system. Meanwhile, part of the south-exposed roof overhangs is covered with photovoltaic panels.

The essence of our competition project is its location—a plot of land at the foot of the Central Apennine range. Our goal was to create architecture in such a way as to invite nature into its interior [...]. We managed to combine the complex of guest buildings with the natural scenery, making the inner courtyard the center of daily activities," the authors conclude.
