For some time now, our reality has been accelerating and becoming more confusing. We are trying to meet new challenges and respond quickly to needs, meanwhile it is also important to look ahead and therefore ask ourselves the right questions and try to answer them - including in the sphere of planning, urban planning, architecture and construction.
In the current situation, we badly need a safe, friendly and open space for everyone to discuss, interpret and reflect. To be together. Let's meet between July 1 and August 14 at the ZODIAK Warsaw Architecture Pavilion at Pasaż Wiecha to discuss, as we do every year, around "PLANS FOR THE FUTURE" of architects who will present their projects for Warsaw.
"PLANS FOR THE FUTURE/ LAB" is an initiative to continue the long-standing tradition of "Plans for the Future," an event periodically organized by the Łowicka Cultural Center in cooperation with the Warsaw branch of SARP, the City of Warsaw and many cultural institutions. Since 2022, the Warsaw branch of SARP has been taking care of the project, and the priority is to integrate the community of architects, urban planners, architecture supporters and residents. The key is the involvement and dialogue of all those who see the need to participate in the creation of quality architecture and urban planning, referring to the challenges and problems of today, but also responding to the future needs of the city.
The fabric of the city reacts to current events, it is like a living organism that sooner or later will give us the effects of what is happening. It is necessary to learn from both positive developments, but also to prepare for the prospect of accumulating problems. We are currently witnessing how the city and its residents are responding to the migration crisis. How can we support the building of a new social fabric, housing balance, social services, access to education? How to make the city an open, non-exclusionary platform for dialogue? How to manage an expanding population to build a flexible and comfortable city for all? Architecture in crisis is the main theme of this year's "PLANS FOR THE FUTURE/ LAB", within the framework of the project we will want to address issues related to temporary architecture, recycling in architecture or the influence of social aspects on architecture and urban planning. We are convinced that architecture is a field that is close to life, but also a field that is inherently inclusive, which does not develop if it does not build a continuous relationship with its users. Therefore, the goal of "PLANS for the Future/ LAB" will be to raise residents' awareness of architecture and urbanism by involving them in an active dialogue with architects who design for Warsaw.
"PLANS FOR THE FUTURE/ LAB" is a platform for knowledge and information exchange, consisting of an exhibition presenting future architectural projects for Warsaw Co-organizer: architects and female architects working in Poland, as well as discussion panels and workshops. The opening of the exhibition will also be accompanied by additional events that will make up the ARCHITECTURE WORLD. It will be a review of projects, initiatives, companies operating at the intersection of architecture and other areas of life such as design, art, social sciences, ecology, new construction technologies, new energy technologies, IT sector (smart homes). Through a network of events, we want to show architecture as a complex field, in which equally key roles are played by specialists in various fields, not only architects. WYWIĘTO, is a network of micro exhibitions and presentations that will be seen in apartments, interiors, vacant buildings, storefronts, offices located on the axis of the Zamoyski Palace on Foksal Street - the Zodiak Pavilion at the Wiecha Passage. Walking along Foksal and Chmielna streets, it will be possible to visit places that are inaccessible on a daily basis and see how they change, transform in the process of adaptation to new functions, referring to the notions of recycling, temporary architecture and management of existing city resources.
The project will be accompanied by an installation by students of the Architecture Department, and the event will be complemented by a catalog that will present the projects from the exhibition. The organizers' intention is for the event to become a celebration of architecture and a space to talk about it, not only for professionals, but for all interested Warsaw residents. Our dream is for architects, to enter into a real dialogue with Varsovians, and for Varsovians to better understand and influence the shape of our space on a small and large scale.
